Minnesota Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Recognition System: Deadline April 9, 2021
Minnesota schools and districts are invited to apply for the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Recognition System. The purpose of Minnesota PBIS Recognition is to identify and recognize exemplar schools and districts that have completed PBIS implementation and are continuing to achieve positive student outcomes. These schools and districts are able to demonstrate exemplary status by sustaining school-wide PBIS with fidelity in the current 2020-21 school year. Criteria are based on effective implementation of the essential components outlined by our National Technical Assistance Center on PBIS. Applications for PBIS Recognition are due April 9, 2021. In addition to individual school recognition, districts that are coordinating and supporting their PBIS schools, whether cohort-trained or not, are invited to apply for district recognition. Annual Olmstead Plan Amendment Process
Every year, the Olmstead Plan is updated with new goals as part of the Annual Olmstead Plan Amendment Process. As part of this process, we want to know what you think about the proposed updates during a public comment period. Your comments will go to the 13 Olmstead Subcabinet state agencies and will influence the 2021 Minnesota Olmstead Plan. To review the proposed Olmstead Plan amendments and provide public comment, please visit the Olmstead Plan Amendment Participation site. You may also provide comment directly to Holly Andersen. The public comment deadline is March 12, 2021.
Virtual Office Hours for New COVID-19 Impact Guidance March 10
At the March 5, 2021, Director’s Forum, the Dispute Resolution Team from the Division of Compliance and Assistance will be introducing new COVID-19-related guidance titled Guide to Addressing the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Students with Disabilities, which will be posted to the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) Special Education webpage. To ensure that we are able to address your questions, the Dispute Resolution Team (as well as someone from Special Education Finance) will also hold virtual office hours on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, from 12 to 1 p.m. Please submit any questions about the guidance during the March 5, 2021, Director’s Forum or by emailing Sara Wolf. Then, on March 10, 2021, “drop in” to the Zoom meeting between 12 noon and 1 p.m. and listen to MDE staff respond to questions regarding the guidance. Employment Opportunity at Minnesota Department of Education
MDE’s Division of Statewide Testing has an opening in the area of alternate assessment. This position exists to provide direction, leadership, coordination, consultation and service to school districts and MDE's Statewide Student Assessment and Data Analytics team. This position will serve as a state expert and primary resource for K-12 alternate assessments for students with significant cognitive disabilities (Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS)) and will facilitate the assessment, accommodations and implementation of state academic standards in reading, math, and science for students with disabilities.
