Restorative Practices Training Opportunities

Winter-Spring 2021

Following are restorative practices trainings offered by community organizations and school districts. The Minnesota Department of Education is providing this information but is not a sponsor of the trainings.

Community Trainings

Giga-gikinoo’amaagoo. Wičhúŋnikauŋspepi kte. We will teach you. The EYDI/Indigenous Pedagogy Virtual Academy will be held in 9–12-week terms throughout the calendar year. A variety of professional presenters will address areas of ethnomathematics, indigenous science, art/music, storytelling, reading/writing, youth empowerment, Ojibwemowin, Dakota language, native language revitalization, identity, pedagogy, Indian education, and other topics. The quarters will be held January 18 to February 6; February 22 to March 13; March 29 to April 17; and May 3 to 22, 2021.

Virtual Conflict and Repair Facilitation Training, January 27, 28 and 29, is offered by Collective Voices: Reconnecting, Repairing, Rebuilding. Collective Voices also offers resources and trainings on Grief Support Services; Conflict and Repair Dialogue; Family Circles and Healing/Support Circles. Contact Jessie Kushner, 608-347-1432.

2021 Restorative Justice Online Trainings and Workshops, January through April, offered by The Center for Restorative Justice and Peacemaking, University of Minnesota – Duluth. Take some time to browse the list, which includes beginning and advanced one-hour, four-hour, and 16-hour sessions. Register for Restorative Justice online trainings. Group discount of 10% for three or more participants. Scholarships available for all trainings. Priority is given to people of color looking to build restorative skills.

Circle for Anishinaabeg and other American Indian Educators with Lindsey Markwardt. $65, February 5, 2021, 9 a.m. – noon. This Circle is specifically for Anishinaabeg and other American Indian educators, facilitated by Indigenous Circle keepers. By telling stories, participants will discuss ways to elevate American Indian students’ voice and advocate for repair of harm over punishment in schools. Lindsey Markwardt is an American Indian Woman living on the Fond du Lac Reservation and works with at-risk American Indian youth as a Home-School Liaison. Inviting School Administrators: Critical Elements of Restorative Practices (RP) School Design with Marg Thorsborne and Connie Hyde. March 1 and 2, 2021, 2:30-4:30 p.m. Central Time USA. $95.00. This workshop is designed for school administrators, RP school coordinators and other key decision makers responsible for RP school implementation. Successful implementation of restorative practice (RP) in schools requires a firm understanding of the philosophy and the nature of the practice. This includes an understanding of what can be achieved, what can get in the way, and how to bring people on board in a strategic rather than haphazard way. Presenters: Marg Thorsborne, Thorsborne and Associates and Transformative Justice Australia and Connie Hyde, principal of the Cloquet Area Alternative Education Program (CAEEP). Ongoing RP Sessions

Minnesota Peacebuilding Leadership Institute offers ongoing trainings in trauma, restorative justice, resilience and self-care. Sessions are held monthly and as requested.

Coming to the Table in Minneapolis Racial Healing Talking Circles and Learning Sessions. Free monthly online gatherings. Donations are welcome.

The Inclusive Working Group on the Minnesota Cooperative Conflict Collaborative presents Monthly Jazz Sessions, an ongoing, honest, holding-space arena where community members engage in dialogic-jazz as we co-labor in bringing forth alternative ways of responding with humility and respect to the pain around us.
