New Leave Year for Family and Medical Leave Begins July 1
If you need Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) here is what you should do:
- Notify Jennifer Cole, Human Resources Specialist, 30 days in advance or as soon as practicable that you need FMLA leave. She will provide information regarding the process and the necessary paperwork to apply for FMLA leave.
- Wait to submit FMLA medical certification forms to MDE Human Resources until MDE Human Resources requests them. Agency Human Resources will request medical certification at the time the employee gives notice of the need for leave for a serious health condition, or at the time the leave of absence for a serious health condition begins. This ensures the FMLA certification paperwork is connected to the reason for the leave request or absence, and ensures MDE Human Resources can accurately determine the employee’s eligibility for the protections granted under law. For additional information, please visit the leave page on Inside MDE, or contact Jennifer Cole in Human Resources.

Don’t Trust Anyone and other Tips to Help You Secure Your Home Network
Don’t trust anyone seems like extreme advice, but it is reasonable when considering your email. Hackers, scammers, and fraudsters continually find new ways to trick users with clever emails. For every email that hits your inbox, you should verify the sender email address and not just the displayed name. And, it should raise a red flag anytime you follow a link from an email, and it sends you to a login page. Instead of following links provided, navigate to the site manually, or from your own bookmarks.
Working from home introduces new challenges and risks to your workday. Along with not trusting anyone regarding your email, we have other tips for improving the security of your home network as well as tips for working from home. Read more of our security tips.

June is National Safety Month!
Given the current state of the world, safety is more important than ever. The state of Minnesota remains committed to saving lives and preventing injuries, in the workplace, at home and on our roadways.
Week three of safety month focuses on ergonomics. The design of your computer workstation is important in the office environment, at home or wherever you find yourself working. How you organize your work area and perform your work has a big impact on reducing awkward postures and reduces the risk of injury. Whether working at home or in a traditional office setting, here are some ergonomic tips that you can use to make you more comfortable.
Read about ergonomics and review other safety messages on the Safety Information for You from our Agency page.
