U.S. Department of Education Recognizes Robbinsdale School of Engineering and Arts as a 2020 Green Ribbon School

Award honors schools, districts and postsecondary institutions for innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact, increase efficiency, improve health and wellness and provide effective sustainability education

ROSEVILLE – The U.S. Department of Education announced the 2020 Green Ribbon Schools today, honoring schools across the nation that are leading the way in reducing environmental impact, promoting health, and ensuring high-quality environmental education programming for students, with a focus on sustainability skills and concepts. School of Engineering and Arts in the Robbinsdale Area School District is among the 39 schools, 11 districts and five postsecondary institutions across the country to receive this honor.

“Now more than ever, I am inspired by the innovation and creativity of our school communities,” said Commissioner Mary Cathryn Ricker. “Congratulations to Robbinsdale School of Engineering and Arts on this prestigious recognition. Thank you for your important efforts toward a better, more sustainable future for Minnesota and the world.”

The honorees were named from a pool of candidates nominated by 27 states. The selectees include 28 public schools, including three magnet schools and four charter schools, as well as 11 nonpublic schools. Forty-five percent of the 2020 honorees serve a disadvantaged student body.  

The list of all selected schools, districts, colleges and universities, as well as their nomination packages, can be found on the U.S. Department of Education website. A report highlighting each of the honorees is also available.

Minnesota schools that are interested in the award submit applications to the Minnesota Department of Education. The department and the Minnesota Office of Higher Education evaluate the applications and select schools for nomination to the U.S. Department of Education for the national award.
