Dr. Heather Mueller Announced as Deputy Commissioner of MDE
ROSEVILLE, MN - Dr. Heather Mueller has been named the Deputy Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). Dr. Mueller started her career in education more than 20 years ago, teaching in Greater Minnesota.
“I am pleased to announce Dr. Heather Mueller will serve as Minnesota’s Deputy Commissioner of Education,” said Commissioner Mary Cathryn Ricker. “During Heather’s tenure at MDE, she has excelled in her leadership positions and proven herself to be an asset to the agency. Heather’s perspective as a teacher and administrator in a Greater Minnesota school district continually bring key insights to our work, and I am excited to continue our work for students, educators and Minnesotans.”
“I am excited to expand my role at the Minnesota Department of Education,” said Deputy Commissioner Heather Mueller. “I can still remember my first day as a classroom teacher and coaching my first cheerleading squad. Throughout it all, I continue to see the immense impact of education on students, educators and families. I consistently strive to ensure that our students have access to an education that fully and intentionally prepares them for the challenges and opportunities they face in life. Equity, partnership and support continue to guide me now as Deputy Commissioner. I am honored to serve Minnesota.”
Biography of Dr. Heather Mueller
Dr. Heather Mueller started her career at Mankato Area Public Schools teaching social studies. During her time at Mankato, she worked as a continuous improvement coach, professional development coordinator, and the director of teaching and learning. She served as an assistant commissioner at the Minnesota Department of Education. Dr. Mueller earned her doctor of education in leadership degree from St. Mary’s University. She earned her specialist and K-12 administrative license, master’s degree in educational leadership, and a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
