Update Regarding Winter Weather Cancelations and Instructional Days/Hours

We have had many questions about how schools and districts will address calendars that are coming up against the minimum number of instructional hours and/or days. We are working with the Minnesota Association of School Administrators and the Minnesota Association of Charter Schools to survey districts and charter schools in order to determine how widespread this issue will reach so that we can work with you to address the flexibility needed. Please watch for messages from MASA and MACS and respond.

Nonpublic Pupil Aids; Promulgation of Fiscal Year 2019 Program Rates of Entitlement and Pupil Reporting Procedure

Please read the Nonpublic Pupil Aids memorandum from Greg Sogaard, Division of School Finance. Public school districts are reimbursed for expenditures incurred in providing pupils the instructional materials and pupil support services required when pupils are attending a nonpublic school (includes home schools), which are established and operating within the district’s boundaries. Please forward this information to your district administrator for nonpublic pupil aids. If you have any questions, please contact Greg Sogaard.

Online Telecommunications/Internet Access Aid Cost Reporting – FY 2018 Actual Costs

The annual reporting of e-rate cost data for the purpose of calculating the Fiscal Year 2019 Minnesota telecommunications/internet access equity aid begins February 1, 2019, and continues until February 28. Details on data submission and telecom cluster addresses are included in the memorandum from Lonn Moe. Further information is available on the Facilities and Technology webpage. Learn strategies to improve consistent student attendance in your schools during an Attendance Works Virtual Training Session on Wednesday, February 6, 3:30-5 p.m. In its new accountability system, Minnesota is increasing its attention to consistent attendance as an important indicator of student engagement and school climate, as well as a significant predictor of academic success. Consistent attendance is one indicator used to identify schools for support and this webinar is designed to assist schools working on improvement plans. During this training, Attendance Works will discuss root causes of chronic absenteeism, strategies to address attendance issues and tiered practices to improve consistent attendance. The School Safety Technical Assistance Center and Midwest Comprehensive Center are hosting the webinar. No registration is necessary.
