Schools collect a lot of private data from parents and students. As a reminder, the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act requires that schools and other government entities provide a notice when they collect private or confidential data from an individual. The notice, also called a Tennessen warning, tells the individual why you are collecting the information; whether they must provide the information or can choose not to provide it; the consequences of providing or not providing the information; and who else may have access to the information. Schools should consult with their legal counsel or other data practices authority for guidance to ensure that they are providing appropriate private data collection notices when they collect private information from students or parents, including information they collect and share with the Minnesota Department of Education. The Minnesota Data Practices Office has more information about privacy notices and other data practices resources to support government entities.

During the webinars, center staff and partners will provide district and school leaders with information on how they can best lead and support school climate improvement efforts. The webinars will also highlight effective practices that work to improve school climate outcomes.
