U.S. Department of Education Recognizes 2018 Green Ribbon Schools

Three schools and one college from Minnesota included in announcement

ROSEVILLE, MN – The U.S. Department of Education announced the 2018 Green Ribbon Schools today, honoring schools across the nation that are leading the way in reducing environmental impact, promoting health, and ensuring high-quality environmental education programming that prepares students with sustainability skills and concepts. Among the 2018 honorees are three schools and one college from Minnesota. Those schools are:

  • Moreland Arts and Health Sciences Magnet School, West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan Area Schools
  • North Park Elementary School, Columbia Heights Public Schools
  • River’s Edge Academy, St. Paul
  • Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter

“Young people are taking action to make our world a better place for all of us on a variety of issues, including creating sustainable solutions for a healthier environment,” Commissioner Brenda Cassellius said. “These students and their teachers are leading the way. I congratulate Moreland Arts and Health Sciences Magnet School, North Park Elementary School, River’s Edge Academy, and Gustavus Adolphus College on being named a 2018 Green Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.”

In total, 46 schools, six districts, and six postsecondary institutions throughout the U.S. were honored in the announcement.

The list of all selected schools, districts, colleges, and universities, as well as their nomination packages, can be found on the U.S. Department of Education website. A report with highlights of each of the honorees is also available.

Minnesota schools that are interested in the award submit applications to the Minnesota Department of Education. The department and the Minnesota Office of Higher Education evaluate the applications and select schools for nomination to the U.S. Department of Education for the national award. Awardees will be honored at a September ceremony in Washington, D.C. and  receive a plaque and the use of the award logo to recognize their school.
