Students and Schools Celebrate College Knowledge Month in October

10/6/17 - Minnesota students are participating in College Knowledge Month during October, a time when high schools and postsecondary institutions help students navigate the college application process. Minnesota students can also send in college applications to participating institutions for free.

Athletics Data Reporting

Please remember that athletic data submissions are due on or before October 15 and must be completed on Minnesota Department of Education's (MDE) Athletics Data Reporting webpage.

The login requires a valid MDE user account before you can log in to the athletics data submission application. If you do not currently have an MDE user account, you will need to create one and then request access to athletic data reporting.

Please email Rachel Centinario or call 651-582-8276 if you need assistance entering your data or receiving access to the site.

The Minnesota Scholars of Distinction Program

The Scholars of Distinction Award Program nurtures and recognizes distinguished achievement by highly motivated, self-directed students. Students may apply for scholars of distinction awards in leadership, mathematics, science, social studies, STEM, or theater arts. Students must complete the intent to apply form by December 18, 2017.

Facilities Age and Square Footage Report Memo – Due December 15, 2017

See the October 12 Facilities Age and Square Footage Report Memo from Tom Melcher. School districts are required to annually review the district’s inventory of buildings and the vital information pertaining to each building. Districts are requested to submit any changes or corrections to this report no later than December 15.

You can access the inventory of buildings on the MDE website, select districts, schools and educators, then business and finance from the top navigation bar. Then select data submissions and scroll down to the facilities age and square footage report. Charter schools and cooperatives are not required to complete this report.

Comment Period for Current Arts Standards Review is Open

Tell MDE what you think about the current arts standards!

As part of the academic standards review process, the public is invited to comment on the current 2008 arts standards. This process will be open from October 11 to October 25, 2017.  Review the standards and complete the public feedback survey.

Please share this message with arts educators, arts organizations, and others who may be interested in completing the feedback survey.

Commissioner's Dialogue with Superintendents – October 18

Superintendents and charter school leaders are invited to participate in this monthly audio conference call hosted by Commissioner Brenda Cassellius. The next call is scheduled for Wednesday, October 18, 9:30-10:30 a.m. A notice providing dial-in instructions will be sent prior to the call. Comments to offer and/or questions you would like to ask are encouraged.

Conference Call Schedule: November 7, December 14, January 17, February 21, March 21, April 18 and May 16. All calls are from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
