ESSA Public Comment - Thank You!

The Every Student Succeeds Act public comment period closed on August 31 and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who participated! We received nearly 200 responses to our public input survey, had over 300 public meeting participants, and received nearly 100 letters and emails outlining the thoughts of students, families, teachers, administrators, student support staff, civil rights organizations, advocacy groups, Tribal Nations and more.

The comments, concerns, ideas and questions shared have all been extremely valuable to Commissioner Cassellius and the rest of the team at the Minnesota Department of Education. We will be posting the state plan on the ESSA page of our website after we submit it to the U.S. Department of Education on Monday, September 18. We will also have a document explaining what has changed since the last draft, and why those changes were made. We'll send an update when these documents are available.
