Selected team members will meet quarterly to provide insight into curricular tools and resources that fit their needs and the needs of Minnesota K-12 educators. Stipends and travel funds are available to advisory team members. Application deadline has been extended to Friday May 13, 2022.
Forget the guinea pig. How about adopting a 1,500-pound dairy cow for your classroom mascot? Midwest Dairy and its farmer network will supply you with photos and stories about your cow's life on the farm and make her come alive for your students! Bring agriculture into the classroom this school year with the Adopt a Cow program.
The Staples-Motley FFA Chapter won the 2022 Minnesota FFA Agricultural Literacy Challenge. This FFA Chapter participated in a wide variety of agricultural literacy and service-based activities to share the story of agriculture in their community. One of the activities, focused on promoting the importance of of local agricultural businesses. This "Small Business Showdown" used the app "Goosechase" to create challenges for students in grades 7-12 to complete by visiting these businesses. The Staples-Motley FFA Chapter also hosted hosted virtual events, such as the #ThankAFarmersgiving agricultural advocacy campaign. Trivia questions and challenges were shared during the week of Thanksgiving to get conversations started about where food comes from. FFA Advisor Joe Ramstad states "Anything we can do to begin these conversations and help consumers recognize agriculture's place in their own lives, helps us reach our goal of creating lifelong agricultural literacy!"
See how science issues are solved through agriculture! Participants in this two-day workshop will:
- create and test biofuels
- learn about plant science and pollination
- examine GMO facts, myths and modern methods of plant breeding
Lodging and meals will be provided and participants will receive $300 worth of supplies for classroom use.
