Did you know MAITC's newest program, Farm Camp Minnesota, connects classrooms to on-site farm tours and career lessons? Farm Camp pilot programs were a huge hit with educators last year. From cattle to goats, and maple syrup to cheese, Farm Camps heighten students' knowledge of agriculture in Minnesota. Learn more about Farm Camp Minnesota: our mission, who we work with, and how you can get involved, at our new website: farmcampminnesota.org
Check out this new collection of poems, Fresh-Picked Poetry, that takes young readers to a day at an urban farmers' market. Who to see, what to eat, and how produce is grown—it's all so exciting, fresh, and delicious. Readers are invited to peruse the stands and inspect vendors' wares with poems like "Farmer Greg's Free-Range Eggs," "Summer Checklist," and "Necessary Mess."

Upper elementary and middle school readers will enjoy meeting Esperanza Ortega in Esperanza Rising. Esperanza thought she'd always live a privileged life on her family's ranch in Mexico. She'd always have fancy dresses, a beautiful home filled with servants, and Mama, Papa, and Abuelita to care for her. But a sudden tragedy forces Esperanza and Mama to flee to California and settle in a Mexican farm labor camp. Esperanza isn't ready for the hard work, financial struggles brought on by the Great Depression, or lack of acceptance she now faces. Esperanza must find a way to rise above her difficult circumstances—because Mama's life, and her own, depend on it.
