It's September! Teachers, students and families across Minnesota are starting the school year in a variety of learning environments. Many farmers are anxiously awaiting harvest season, and some of our Minnesota crops are ready to be picked like our state fruit, the Honeycrisp Apple! Our Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom (MAITC) Team is here to assist you as the season changes from summer to fall. Please reach out to our MAITC team of Education Specialists and Regional Curriculum Specialists if there is guidance we can offer as you integrate agriculture into your classroom and curricula.
We are sending you positivity, flexibility and good health as the school year and fall season get underway!
October is National Farm to School Month, a time to celebrate our connections between students and local food and show gratitude to our school nutrition and farmer heroes providing essential services during these pandemic times.
MAITC is partnering with Midwest Dairy to host a series of free Virtual Field Trips in October. In-person classrooms, as well as students distance learning, are invited to join us to meet farmers and tour farms that provide hot dogs, lettuce, apples, vegetables, milk and more to Minnesota school cafeterias.
All Virtual Field Trips will occur at 10 a.m. Dates and locations:
- Thursday, October 1: Goldenrust Farm, Eyota, MN
- Thursday October 8: Deer Lake Apple Orchard, Buffalo, MN
- Tuesday October 13: Revol Greens, Owatonna, MN
- Thursday October 22: New Roots Produce Farm, Morehead, MN
- Thursday October 29: Ahlgren Dairy Farm, Central MN
