Minnesota well represented at National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference

Six Minnesotans joined a group of 500 educators from across the US at the National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference in Little Rock, Arkansas, June 18th-21st. Engaging breakout sessions, inspiring keynote speakers including Temple Grandin and networking with colleagues from across the county were highlights of this conference. Minnesota was also well represented in the awards presented:

Feed, Seeds and STEM Teacher Tour

Feed, Seeds and STEM Teacher Tour on June 12th

Our Feed, Seed and STEM tour in the Carver, Minnesota, area was a BLAST! STEM is everywhere in agriculture. We experienced STEM through robots feeding cattle on a dairy farm, technology utilized at a seed company, and the cheese making process at a local creamery. We even heard from FFA members about their involvement in the local chapter.

Redwood and Renville County Teacher Tour on June 27th and 28th

What more could you want out of summer fun than a winery, fresh picked strawberries and experiencing agriculture first hand?! We got to know the faces behind the agricultural operations in Redwood and Renville counties on this teacher tour! Stops included Stony Creek Farm, Tiffany Farms Inc, Gilfillan Estate, Grandview Valley Winery, The Shrimp Shop and Hilltop Harvest.

Follow Your Food Teacher Tour

We have just a few spots left on our final teacher tour of the summer. Join us to follow locally grown fruits and veggies from a farm where they get their start to the Hopkins School District where students and educators enjoy this produce! Participants in this tour will also receive professional development on Mobile (phone/tablet) Video Production.

What's Growin On? MAITC Podcast!

To support teachers and put a face and a story behind our resources, MAITC has created a podcast called "What's Growing on in Minnesota?" This monthly podcast is specifically targeted for teachers or agriculture enthusiasts that want to learn more about agricultural topics and how to utilize our resources.

Mind-blowing research into pig genetics and nutrition as well as awesome career opportunities are the highlights of our conversation with JoDee Haala from Christensen Farms as she explains the the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) utilized at their new research facility.

Eric Hoese tells us how Hoese Dairy near Mayer, Minnesota, became one of just five farms in Minnesota to utilize technology that allows for precise nutrition and efficiency in raising dairy cattle and producing milk.
