MDA Issues Consumer Advisory for Improper
Pasteurization of Ice Cream Mix
No reports of illness have been associated with these products
St. Paul, MN: The
Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is issuing a consumer advisory for
ice cream mix distributed by Autumnwood Farm of Forest Lake, Minnesota due to
inadequate pasteurization. The Autumnwood Farm ice cream mix had been
inadequately pasteurized since May 16, 2018. The mix was sold to three retail
ice cream locations in Minnesota: LouLou Sweet & Savory Ice Cream and
Coffee Shop (Minneapolis), Love Creamery (Duluth), and Pumphouse Creamery
(Minneapolis).
There have been no reports of illness associated with these
products.
The following products are affected:
- All ice cream sampled or sold at LouLou Sweet & Savory Ice Cream and
Coffee Shop, 2839 Emerson Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN, between 5/16/18 through
7/13/18 at 12:00pm. The mix was changed at 12:00 p.m. on 7/13/18 and ice cream
served after 12:00 p.m. is not affected.
- All ice cream sampled or sold at Love Creamery, 1908 W. Superior St.,
Duluth, MN, between 6/11/18 and 7/12/18.
- All ice cream sampled or sold at Pumphouse Creamery, 4754 Chicago Ave.,
Minneapolis, MN, between 5/24/18 and 7/12/18. This includes hand-dipped ice
cream, pints, quarts, and ice cream cookie sandwiches. Pumphouse Creamery was
closed on 7/13/18. All products served or sold starting 7/14/18 are not
affected.
Improper pasteurization of dairy products may result in
contamination with bacteria like E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus, because the
product does not reach temperatures high enough to kill microorganisms.
If you have ice cream product in your home from one of the
affected stores during the dates listed, throw it away and do not eat it. If
you have experienced gastrointestinal symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea after
consuming ice cream from the locations mentioned above, please contact your
health care professional.
