Certification Numbers as of June 4, 2018:
-
579 certified producers
-
368,875 certified acres
- 1,071 new practices implemented
What is a "new practice"?
The Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program (MAWQCP) is a risk assessment process where risks to water quality
are identified and treated. When an identified risk is mitigated, we count the full treatment
as a new practice.
Some examples include:
- 1 new practice = installing 6 water quality inlets on tile
inlets
- 1 new practice = addressing gully erosion with a series of 3 water and sediment control basins
- 1 new practice = following University of Minnesota
recommendations for nitrogen timing and rate across entire farming operation
- 1 new practice = planting cover crops after all corn silage, dry
beans and potato crops
