2016 Teacher Tour

Summer Teacher Tours Registration

As many of you begin your well-deserved summer break, make sure you are registered for one of the Teacher Tours this summer. Registration will close on June 9th for the Northern MN tour. Registration will close on June 30th for both the Specialty Crop and Many Faces if Agriculture tours. We hope to see you this summer!

Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom (MAITC) is excited to offer three Summer Teacher Tours that allow K-12 teachers to gain first-hand experience with agriculture. We will tour a variety of ag focused sites, and offer resources and hands-on examples that support teachers in integrating agriculture into their science, social studies, math, language arts, and/or health curriculum.  Here are the tour dates and details:

Northern MN

July 7th – Northern MN Tour: $40 We will visit the Laporte Elementary school garden and hear how teachers are integrating gardening and agriculture in their curriculum, tour a beef cattle farm that uses rotational grazing and attending a Dinner on the Farm near Blackduck, MN

Specialty Crop

July 17-18 – Specialty Crop Tour: $25 We will be visiting Untiedt Vegetable Farm near Montrose, Len Bush Roses near Plymouth, Big River Farms (works with immigrant and beginning farmers), Minneapolis Public Schools Nutrition Center and several other sites. 

Many Faces of Ag

July 24-25 – Many Faces of Agriculture Tour: $75  We will be traveling to New Sweden Dairy Farm, All American Foods, Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota, U of M Outreach Center (pigs and cattle), Chankaska Creek Vineyard and Winery, and Farmamerica. Arnold’s Implement will be providing tractors and other implements for tour participants to drive at Farmamerica! This is an overnight tour with a hotel stay in Mankato.

CEUs will be given to all participants. Graduate credits are available through Hamline University at a cost of $358.
