Please be advised of the following food, meat, and/or animal feed recalls affecting Minnesota this past week.


Boulder Brands, Inc. Voluntarily Recalls Earth Balance Vegan White Cheddar Mac & Cheese and Earth Balance Vegan Cheddar Mac & Cheese Due to Possible Dairy Allergen Contamination

Recalled Earth Balance Vegan Mac and Cheese

December 10, 2016 – Boulder Brands, Inc. is voluntarily recalling Earth Balance Vegan White Cheddar Mac & Cheese and Earth Balance Vegan Cheddar Mac & Cheese. Boulder Brands initiated the recall after being informed by consumers that the product may contain a dairy allergen.

All products expiring in 2017 are being recalled.  The recalled items can be identified by the code embossed on the bottom of the package. The ‘17’ in the code identifies product that will expire in 2017. All products are in 6-oz. packages. Only the following products are affected by this recall:

  • Earth Balance Vegan Cheddar Macaroni & Cheese (UPC 0 33776 08050 1)
  • Earth Balance Vegan White Cheddar Macaroni & Cheese (UPC 0 33776 08052 5)

Deep River Snacks Issues Voluntary Recall For Sour Cream & Onion Kettle Chips Due To Possible Salmonella Contamination

Recalled Deep River Sour Cream and Onion Kettle Chips

December 10, 2016 – Deep River Snacks is issuing a voluntary recall for certain Sour Cream & Onion Kettle Chips after being informed by a tertiary ingredient supplier that buttermilk powder used in the seasoning may contain traces of Salmonella.

The product was distributed nationally through retail and foodservice outlets. The following items and best by dates are affected by this recall:

  • Deep River Snacks Sour Cream & Onion Kettle Chips (2oz) UPC: 850668000498; Best By: 11/9/16 to 6/2/17
  • Deep River Snacks Sour Cream & Onion Kettle Chips (5oz) UPC: 850668000993; Best By: 11/9/16 to 6/1/17
  • Deep River Snacks Sour Cream & Onion Kettle Chips - EXPORT (5oz) UPC: 850668000993; Best By: 11/5/16 to 4/13/17

The item UPC number can be found on the back of the bag underneath the bar code. The best by date can be found printed on the front of the bag, in the upper right quadrant near the Deep River Snacks logo. The best by date is printed in the format: DD MMM YYYY (e.g. 10 DEC 2016).

FSIS Issues Public Health Alert For Possibly Undercooked Ready-To-Eat Chicken Products That Have Been Incorporated Into Other Food Products

Dec. 9, 2016 – USDA FSIS is alerting consumers that recalled ready-to-eat chicken products produced by National Steak and Poultry have been used or incorporated into other FSIS-regulated products.

National Steak and Poultry originally recalled various chicken products due to possible undercooking. Proper cooking of poultry products is essential to eliminate pathogens, such as Salmonella, which are commonly associated with raw poultry products.

Ajinomoto Windsor, Inc., Aryzta LLC, Nation Pizza Products Limited, and Southwest Products LLC all used or incorporated the recalled chicken products produced by National Steak and Poultry as an ingredient in their own FSIS-regulated products. These establishments were not aware that the recalled poultry may have been undercooked at the time that the recalled poultry was further processed into products for sale to consumers by them. A current list of brands and associated products subject to this Public Health Alert can be found below:

  • Ajinomoto brand “Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice”
  • Archer Farms brand pizza products containing chicken
  • Ferratto’s brand chicken pizza product
  • Best Choice brand chicken pizza product
  • Nuevo Grille brand chicken quesadilla product
  • Schwan’s brand chicken quesadilla product

The products subject to this Public Health Alert bear establishment numbers “P-18356”, “P-2539B”, “P-1682A”, and “P-17417” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to warehouses, distributors, and retail locations nationwide.

Shearer's Foods, LLC Recalls Product Made With Affected Seasonings Due To Potential Salmonella Contamination

Recalled chips made by Shearer's Foods

December 10, 2016 – Shearer's Foods is voluntarily recalling all products that were made with milk ingredients supplied by a secondary supplier Valley Milk Products LLC, due to possible Salmonella contamination. This recall was of a nationwide distribution and includes the following product brands and flavors:

  • Deep River Sour Cream & Onion Krinkle Kettle Chip
  • Deep River Sour Cream & Onion Krinkle Kettle Chip
  • Deep River Sour Cream & Onion Krinkle Kettle Chip
  • Delish Jalapeno White Cheddar Kettle Chip
  • Larry The Cable Guy Biscuits & Gravy Thin Potato Chips
  • Larry The Cable Guy Jalapeno Popper Thin Potato Chips
  • Essential Everyday Nacho Tortilla Chips
  • Essential Everyday Spicy Nacho Tortilla Chips
  • Market Essential Nacho Tortilla Chips
  • Market Essential Spicy Nacho Tortilla Chips
  • Essential Everyday 20 bag Classic Mix (1 oz. Nacho Cheese Tortilla only)

Shearer's Foods, LLC initiated a recall after being notified on 12/7/16 by a seasoning supplier that Valley Milk Products LLC had initiated a recall of a nonfat high heat milk powder and sweet cream butter milk powder that is used in a variety of their seasonings.

TreeHouse Foods Announces Voluntary Product Recall Due to Possible Health Risk

Recalled Instant Macaroni and Cheese from Treehouse Foods

December 11, 2016 – TreeHouse Foods, Inc. announced a voluntary recall of certain macaroni and cheese cup products containing cheddar cheese seasoning which may be contaminated with Salmonella.

This follows notification from our supplier that the milk powder used in the seasoning has the potential for Salmonella contamination.

Product was distributed nationwide through retail stores. The following product brands are affected by this recall:

  • Big Win Original Macaroni & Cheese Dinner
  • Cheese Club Express Mac Macaroni & Cheese Dinner
  • Great Value Macaroni & Cheese Original Cups

Valley Milk Products, Strasburg, Virginia Recalls Limited Amount of Milk and Buttermilk Powder Because of Possible Health Risks

Valley Milk Product - Dry Milk and Buttermilk Powder

December 9, 2016 – Valley Milk Products is announcing a recall of 50-pound bags of nonfat high heat milk powder and sweet cream buttermilk powder that were produced from December 10, 2015 to July 5, 2016 due to potential Salmonella contamination, which was identified at the manufacturing facility but not in tested finished product.

The products included in the recall can be identified by the following product names:

  • High Heat Nonfat Dry Milk Powder 50# bags with a shelf life of 18 months
  • Sweet Cream Buttermilk Powder in 50# bags with a shelf life of 12 months

Products were not sold directly to consumers, but are used as ingredients in a number of foods such as bakery products and distributed by brokers.

Fourth Street Barbecue, Inc. /Packing Division Recalls Mac & Cheese Dinner Cups Because of Possible Health Risk

Recalled Cheese Club and Double Takes Instant Macaroni and Cheese Cups

December 12, 2016 – Fourth Street Barbecue Inc./Packing Division has initiated the voluntary recall of Cheese Club Express Mac & Cheese 4 cup dinner and Double Takes Macaroni & Cheese 2 cup dinner due to possible health risk.  The powdered cheese packets may be impacted by milk powder ingredients recalled by Valley Milk Products, LLC contaminated with Salmonella.

Product was distributed nationwide through retail stores. The products being recalled are listed below:

Brand Castle, LLC Recalls Limited Quantities of 16oz. Boxes of In The Mix® Monkey Bread Mix Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination

Recalled "In The Mix" Monkey Bread Mix

December 12, 2016 – Brand Castle, LLC is voluntarily recalling limited quantities of their In The Mix® Monkey Bread Mix because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

This product is being recalled because an ingredient supplier (Valley Milk Products LLC) has issued a recall for the buttermilk powder used in this product due to the potential for contamination by Salmonella organisms found in their facility and finished product samples during an FDA investigation.

The product has a UPC code of 8-44527-03278-2 and is packaged in a 16oz box with a sticker on the back of the package indicating the below Lot#/Date Code.

The product being recalled includes:

  • In The Mix® Monkey Bread Mix (16 oz.); Lot # 29JUN18BC6202; UPC # 84452703278­2; Best By Date: June 29,2018

Lenny & Larry’s, Inc. Conducts Nationwide Voluntary Recall of Chocolate Chip and Coconut Chocolate Chip Complete Cookie Recall Due To Possible Undeclared Milk in Dark Chocolate Chips

December 12, 2016 – Lenny & Larry’s, Inc., announced today a nationwide voluntary recall of two flavors of Lenny & Larry’s Complete Cookie products - Chocolate Chip and Coconut Chocolate Chip varieties - due to the possible presence of undeclared milk in the dark chocolate chips.

The following product is being recalled:

  • 4 oz. Complete Cookie, Chocolate Chip; Best by Dates: 7-1-17 to 11-30-17; UPC Code: 7 87692-83461 7
  •  4 oz. Complete Cookie, Coconut Chocolate Chip; Best by Dates Between: 9-18-17 to 11-15-17; UPC Code: 7 87692-83538 6

Arcadia Trading Inc. Recalls Lizard Fish Due to Possible Health Risk

Box of recalled Lizard Fish - 15kgs Product of Vietnam, Distributed by Arcadia Trading Inc.

December 15, 2016 – Arcadia Trading Inc. of Brooklyn, NY, is recalling 34 cartons of Lizard Fish because they have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum. Consumers are warned not to consume the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

The Lizard Fish was distributed nationwide to supermarkets between 2/11/2014 and 7/8/2016. The product was imported from Vietnam and is packed in uncoded bulk 15 kg boxes.

Old Dutch Recalls Various Flavored Potato Chip Products due to Possible Health Risk

December 14, 2016 – Old Dutch Foods Inc. of St. Paul, MN is voluntarily recalling a limited number of Flavored Potato Chip and Tortilla Chip products that were made with milk ingredients supplied by one of its’ secondary seasoning component suppliers  Valley Milk Products LLC, due to the potential risk of Salmonella contamination.

Product was distributed nationwide through grocery and other retail stores. The recall includes the following seasoned Potato Chip and Tortilla Chip products:
