As Minnesotans of different backgrounds who love our state and the people in it, we are horrified by the terrible act of violence at the Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.
Our thoughts are with the students, families, staff, and community who have been most directly impacted. Violence has no place in our communities, and we condemn these unconscionable actions.
We stand with our fellow Minnesotans in urging care and support for those affected as we come together as communities to mourn the lives lost and support our friends and neighbors.
We also recognize that some may use this tragedy to continue to target trans communities. We condemn this attempt to divide us in this moment when we should be engaging in solidarity and love to those impacted. Acts of violence are not inherent to one identity or experience. While we all wait on further details; we urge the media, members of the community, and public to stay grounded in the facts, to center those most impacted, and to be aware that the ways we understand what happened affect our response to a tragedy. And we call on leaders to take action to address gun violence in all its forms.
In this painful moment we reaffirm our belief that we all deserve safety, and we stand together in support and solidarity with all those grieving.

Gender Justice Stands With Gerika
Gender Justice filed a charge of discrimination with the Human Rights Department on behalf of Gerika, a biracial lesbian teenager, who was followed into the bathroom by a server at Buffalo Wild Wings who demanded that Gerika prove that she belonged in the women’s restroom.
From Gender Justice: Gerika is a biracial lesbian teenager. She’s not transgender, but the harassment she experienced is the same kind of treatment that trans and gender nonconforming people are subjected to every day.
Right now, a wave of anti-trans panic—fueled by political attacks and misinformation—is reshaping our culture. It’s teaching people to fear, surveil, and harass anyone who doesn’t fit a rigid, outdated, and often racialized idea of what a woman or girl “should” look like.
Watch Gerika’s story here.

Take the National Trans Health Survey
This survey is a community-led research project launched by the organization Point of Pride. The survey aims to uplift the experiences of trans people across the U.S. and inform the future of healthcare systems, policies, and provider education.
The survey is available at TransHealthSurvey.org and is an opportunity for trans people 18 and older across the U.S. to share their experiences and help shape the future of health care. The project is led by an all-trans and non-binary steering committee, along with outreach partners and peer non-profits that serve the LGBTQ+ community.
The survey takes about 25 minutes to complete. It is currently available in English and Spanish. It will be available in Vietnamese, Korean, and Hindi on Sept. 8th.
Find more information and complete the survey here.
