What's Next for MNQT?
As our Community Needs Assessment survey comes to a close, we wanted to share an update on the next steps of this project. Our survey consisted of 130 questions spanning all areas of life including health, education, housing, and employment. Over 6,500 LGBTQIA2S+ adults across Minnesota completed the survey and over 400 parents and caregivers completed the survey on behalf of their LGBTQIA2S+ child. Given the length of our survey and the incredible number of people who entrusted MNQT with their stories, data analysis and reporting will take time. However, we know how important this information will be for the community and for LGBTQIA2S+ serving organizations. For this reason, we plan to release results of the survey in phases. This will allow us to quickly share some results with the community while we continue to work on further data analysis.
Historically, research and data from marginalized communities has been extractive; information is taken from communities without involving them in the process and without allowing them to directly benefit from the results. From the outset of our needs assessment project, MNQT has wanted this project to be different. It is why, from survey design to implementation, MNQT has prioritized community input and feedback. It is also why we want to involve the community as we step into the analysis portion of our work through community engagement efforts and the creation of advisory committees focused on research analysis and public policy priorities.
We are still mapping out the timeline for this work, but we will be in touch as soon as we have more specific information to share. We plan on keeping you informed every step of the way. We’re filled with gratitude for all of the community members and organizations who took the time to promote and complete the survey. And we love how excited people are to see results and create solutions. We share that excitement, but we’re also asking for patience and reminding ourselves to patient too because this process needs to be intentional, reflective, and designed for long-term systems change—and that work takes time. Thank you and know you’ll hear more from us soon.

From the MN Historical Society: Greater Minnesota Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ History Map
The Greater Minnesota Two-Spirit & LGBTQIA+ History Map is a collaborative digital storytelling project facilitated by the Minnesota Historical Society. The map features over 115 entries about individuals, organizations, and events related to Minnesota queer history, spanning from the 1790s to the present day. By focusing on Greater Minnesota, the map counters common narratives that center the Twin Cities in the telling of these histories. Relationship building is at the core of the project; its mission is to build trusting, sustained relationships with Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ communities in Greater Minnesota in ways that honor communities as the authors, leaders, and owners of their own histories. Visit our suggestion form to submit your story ideas!
