Accessibility Updates to Minnesota Housing Documents
Over the coming months we will be updating documents and resources located on Minnesota Housing’s webpage and in our Partner Portal to make them more accessible to visually impaired users. Changes will include the following:
- Reorganizing content to allow for compatibility with screen readers
- Moving content from PDFs onto webpages
- Making minor formatting changes
- Updating forms and worksheets
We will inform you of any documents that have significant changes.

Start Up or Step Up?
What downpayment loan can be used if the borrower(s) are not eligible for DPL/DPL+?
The Monthly Payment Loan is available for all Start Up or Step Up loans!
The Start Up program is for first-time homebuyers, defined as those who "have not had an ownership interest in a principal residence in the last three years." If the borrower meets this definition, they are considered a first-time homebuyer.
Eligible downpayment loans with Start Up:
- Deferred Payment Loan
- Deferred Payment Loan Plus
- Monthly Payment Loan
Step Up can be used for a first-time homebuyer who is not eligible for Start Up (typically, but not limited to, exceeding the income limits and/or purchase limits for Start Up), or if the borrower is not a first-time homebuyer.

In this training we will layout the basics of the Step Up program, how it works, what eligibility criteria is required and how to use the tools and resources provided by Minnesota Housing to successfully originate these loans.

Monthly Update & Hot Topics Call
The Monthly Update & Hot Topics Call is for our lending and other community partners. During these calls we review recent Minnesota Housing updates and important information to help you originate and process our loans. Lenders are welcome to submit questions or topics to discuss on the call. This is a great venue to have more in-depth discussion on advanced topics. If you are a consumer, please visit www.mnhousing.gov to learn more about the programs we offer, the resources available to you and to find a participating lender.
