Like so many across the country, we are deeply concerned about the president’s recent executive order on homelessness. Housing and supports are what ends homelessness – not incarceration and forced treatment.
At the Minnesota Interagency Council on Homelessness we stand in solidarity with our unhoused relatives and neighbors. We remain committed to dignified, data-driven, and collaborative solutions to make sure everyone has a place to call home.
Be sure to join the next monthly webinar on Wednesday, August 6 from 1 - 2 p.m. If you have any questions about your webinar registration, please email dan.gregory@state.mn.us
On the August 6 webinar, hear how Implementation Consultants and agency staff are focusing and advancing Minnesota Housing’s actions in the Crossroads to Justice strategic plan. Plus, learn about the addition of two new board seats for people with lived experience on the HMIS Governing Board.
The beginning 10 minutes of each monthly webinar will be held to hear from the Speakers Bureau. Anyone who has lived experience of homelessness is welcome to sign-up to share through the Speakers Bureau. This is open time each month for lived experience experts to share ideas and feedback with the webinar audience.
The next webinar Speakers Bureau will be on Wednesday, August 6 at 1 p.m. There is a monthly prep session held the Tuesday before the webinar. The prep session will be Tuesday, August 5 from 11-11:30 a.m. Follow this link to join the prep session. This is an ongoing opportunity that happens each month. Sign up is required. Please email dan.gregory@state.mn.us or call/text Dan at 651-983-9985 to sign up to speak or with any questions.
On July 22, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison joined a coalition of 19 other attorneys general in suing the federal administration to stop its attempt to restrict access to critical health, education, and social service programs based on documentation status.
According to a press release from the Attorney General’s Office, “one of the programs expected to be targeted by these changes funds the operation of shelters for homeless individuals, provides services for residents of those shelters, rapidly re-houses families to prevent them from becoming homeless, and more. Delivery time for some of these services, like emergency shelter during life-threatening weather conditions, can make the difference between life and death.”
The National Alliance to End Homelessness has a helpful overview of the proposed restrictions – and why they would be harmful – on their blog. Click here to read more.
The next Office of Addiction and Recovery (OAR) monthly webinar will be held on Wednesday, July 30 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
The June session will include the following topics:
-
Office of Addiction and Recovery update
-
"Getting to know state leaders", a Q&A with Minnesota Department of Commerce Commissioner Grace Arnold
-
Overview of Pink Cloud Foundation
These monthly updates share addiction and recovery initiatives with partners, highlighting important work happening inside and outside state government.
There is good, important work happening across the state to prevent and end homelessness. You know what that work is and what it looks like, because YOU’RE doing it day in and day out.
But others may not have the chance to see that.
That’s why we’re asking people to provide shout-outs on our social media accounts for organizations and efforts that are making a difference! You can add to the gratitude and lift up the successes by commenting on our Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn posts. Can you take a minute to pop over and lift up your peers doing this good, important work?
