On the June 4 webinar, hear why punishing people simply for sleeping outside while facing homelessness is detrimental for people and communities. Peter Larsen, Assistant Professor of Law at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, and Cathy ten Broeke, Executive Director of the Minnesota Interagency Council on Homelessness, will co-present about the legal and practical landscape around criminalization efforts in Minnesota one year after the Supreme Court’s harmful Grants Pass ruling.
MICH’s July webinar has been changed from July 2 to Wednesday, July 9 from 1 – 2 p.m. to accommodate the Independence Day holiday. The July Speakers Bureau Prep Session will now be on Tuesday, July 8 from 11 – 11:30 a.m.
All webinar registration links will continue to work without any change from you – just login on July 9 instead of July 2!
Our next MICH Council Meeting is just around the corner! Tune in on Wednesday, June 11 from 3 – 5 p.m. to hear updates on the implementation of the Crossroads to Justice strategic plan, updates from the state legislative session, and the emerging impact of federal actions on our efforts to provide pathways to housing, racial and health justice for people facing homelessness in Minnesota.

The National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH) has compiled recent data into dashboards that present information on Point in Time Counts and homeless assistance by state and by Continuum of Care region. These interactive charts can help states and communities better understand who experiences homelessness in their area to meet local demand for homelessness assistance. Find the dashboards here.
At the same time as Brainerd has banned camping in public spaces, enforceable by fines or even arrest, the city council has also decided to close the only homeless shelter in the county from May through September. MICH executive director Cathy ten Broeke sat down with MPR to talk about the situation and the landscape of homelessness across Minnesota. Read more on our Facebook, Instagram, and/or LinkedIn pages.
