The Olmstead Plan is updated every year with new goals. Staff from 13 Subcabinet Agencies work together to propose new Plan goals based on the past year's results. The update is called a Plan Amendment.
The Olmstead Implementation Office (OIO) would like to learn what you think about these Plan Amendments. We created a short survey to help us understand if you think the updates are good.
There are 16 proposed changes this year. You can comment on as many or as few as you would like, and you can leave additional comments about the Plan. The survey is open through Thursday, March 10.
Community Input Event and Survey: Preventing Abuse and Neglect
The Minnesota Olmstead Plan has goals about preventing abuse and neglect of people with disabilities. The Prevention of Abuse and Neglect Workgroup is focused on improving these goals. They are hosting a survey and a public input event to learn what you think are the most important things we can do to prevent abuse and neglect.
The survey is available to take online now and only takes a couple of minutes to complete. Your participation will help the workgroup update the Olmstead Plan. Click this link to take the survey.
Community Input Event and Survey: Workforce Shortage
The Workforce Shortage and People with Disabilities Workgroup is hosting a survey and a community input event. You are invited to share your ideas or experiences about competitive, integrated employment. That means jobs where you work with non-disabled people and you get paid the same amount of money as everyone else.
The workgroup wants to know about the three biggest barriers you face to competitive, integrated employment. The survey is online now and only takes a couple of minutes to complete. Click this link to take the survey.
The community input event is Saturday, February 26 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. It will be held on Zoom. Your participation will help the workgroup update the Olmstead Plan. Click this link to register for the event.

Results from the 2021 Olmstead Plan Survey
At the end of 2021, the Olmstead Implementation Office hosted the Olmstead Plan Survey. The survey was open to all Minnesotans to help OIO learn how people feel about the Plan. We wanted to know, “If you were in charge of the Minnesota Olmstead Plan, what would you change?”
Some highlights from the survey include:
-
54% of Minnesotans who took the survey identified as a person with a disability or a family member or caregiver.
-
62% of respondents agreed that it was easy to understand how the Olmstead Plan supports Minnesotans with disabilities.
-
However, for people with disabilities or family members, only 49% of respondents agreed that it was easy to understand.
-
In general, respondents were happy with the Olmstead Plan goals across all areas. However, for 10 out of 12 goal areas, more than 50% of respondents were unhappy with the goal progress.
-
Respondents left more than 400 suggestions and comments about the Plan.
The feedback collected in the survey helps OIO as we plan events and content, as well as during the Plan Amendment process. Learn more on our website at this link: 2021 Olmstead Plan Survey.
