We are excited to welcome the CDC Deployment Team to our provider webinar this week! The CDC team recently spent time in Minnesota shelters and they will share lessons learned, tips for ongoing COVID mitigation and response strategies, and answer your questions. A big thank you to this team for their ongoing partnership and support of our work here in Minnesota.
If you have any questions about your registration, please email Elizabeth Dressel.
The Minnesota Interagency Council on Homelessness (MICH) is seeking the expertise of those who have lived experience of homelessness to join our team as paid consultants. This is an opportunity for people closest to the issue to have a direct impact on the decisions regarding the Council’s quarterly meetings and to shape ongoing work. The consultants’ first project will be to help develop the process for bringing stakeholders together to define the elements of a housing, racial, and health justice orientated plan and help build the next agenda for the Interagency Council. Thank you to many partners across the state who have already created similar groups in order to center the voices of people most impacted by the programs and policies of state and local governments. We are grateful and excited to welcome these new consultants to our team.
About the Consultant Group
The consultant group will consist of five people who have experienced homelessness and are interested in shaping the state’s work on housing, racial, and health justice. The goal is to have a consultant group that represents both rural and urban experiences as well the experiences of families, individuals, and young people. We strongly encourage individuals who are Black, Indigenous or a person of color to apply.
Individuals in the consultant group should expect to work up to 15 hours a month which will include attending meetings, reviewing materials, and meeting preparation activities. We are looking for individuals to commit to participate for four months beginning in December 2021. Consultants will be compensated at a wage of $50 per hour.
There is no required education or work experience to apply. We are seeking individuals who can attend regular meetings, work on a team, interact with stakeholders, and are willing to vocalize their thoughts, concerns and questions. Our team intends to provide support to the consultants and remove as many barriers to participating as possible.
The proposed application questions include:
-
Why are you interested in serving as a consultant to the Minnesota Interagency Council on Homelessness?
-
Please share anything you would like about your experience with homelessness and what perspective you would hope to bring to the Minnesota Interagency Council on Homelessness.
-
Can you commit to up to 15 hours of work for the next four months?
-
Do you anticipate needing any technology support? This could include access to a computer and internet.
The application process is planned to open next Tuesday, October 26. The short application will be available online or can be filled out over the phone. Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9. Our team will conduct a short phone conversation with applicants which will be scheduled after the application is received. We will notify applicants of decisions by November 18. If you are not planning to apply, but have lived experience of homelessness and would like to help review applications and participate in the follow-up phone conversations you can reach out to Elizabeth Dressel and Sue Hite Kirk.
Before the application process launches, we want to hear your thoughts and suggestions. We welcome any feedback you have on the proposed structure and process for developing the consultant group. You can share your thoughts on the webinar tomorrow, by emailing Elizabeth Dressel and Sue Hite-Kirk, or sharing your thoughts anonymously by completing this survey. We are excited to get your thoughts and ideas as we establish this new consultant group.
In addition to this new consultant group, there will be other opportunities for people with lived experience of homelessness and other stakeholders to provide input on the Council’s work to create a housing, racial and health justice-oriented plan. Our team will share additional opportunities as they become available.
