Legislative Update
Hello friends,
Updates from the Capitol
This session we focused on practical results that lower costs, strengthen accountability, and support communities across Minnesota.
On affordability, we delivered meaningful tax relief for homeowners and families. That includes $125 million in property tax relief, a $250 million reduction in car tab fees, and the elimination of the ballpark tax. We also extended key business tax provisions to help Minnesota employers stay competitive and support job creation.
We took major steps to strengthen oversight and protect taxpayer dollars. We created a statewide Office of Inspector General with law enforcement authority to investigate fraud across state government. We also passed Medicaid eligibility verification reforms, added repayment penalties to ensure stolen funds are returned, and established work requirements with reasonable exemptions for those who cannot work.
In health care and rural Minnesota, we increased reimbursement rates for rural and critical access hospitals and created new hospital stabilization and uncompensated care funding to help keep facilities open. We also invested in county technology upgrades to improve efficiency and strengthen fraud prevention systems.
We made targeted investments in infrastructure, public safety, and education. That includes funding for roads, bridges, and water projects across the state, new school safety tools like anonymous threat reporting and mental health supports, and expanded behavioral health services.
In education, we strengthened literacy efforts through updates to the READ Act, increased funding for higher-need schools, and expanded early literacy training for future educators. We also supported workforce housing and began a formal study on the future of nuclear energy in Minnesota to help plan for long-term energy needs.
