Legislative Update

Hello friends,

As we head into the final stretch of the legislative session, work at the Capitol continues at a fast pace as we negotiate budgets, finalize legislation, and push key priorities across the finish line before adjournment. Even with the busy schedule, this time of year is a reminder of what makes Minnesota special as families gather for the fishing opener, celebrate graduations, and enjoy the long-awaited arrival of spring. I always appreciate hearing from constituents during these final weeks of session, and I remain focused on advocating for the communities and priorities that matter most to Minnesotans.

Updates from the Capitol

I was proud to see HF3900 pass the House this week as we continue working to strengthen the Permanent School Fund for future generations of Minnesota students. This bill updates the way fund earnings are distributed by moving to a more stable and predictable formula that will help schools better plan for the future while preserving the long-term strength of the fund itself. HF 3900 now awaits action in the Senate, and if ultimately approved by both chambers and voters in 2026, it will provide a more reliable stream of funding for schools across Minnesota for years to come.

Mueller Minute

In this weeks Mueller Minute, I talk about the need to fund school safety and protect students, especially before allocating funding for Capitol security for politicians.

Events

The annual young entrepreneurs tradeshow is just one week away, on Wednesday, May 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Packer Arena. It is a great opportunity to celebrate creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship in our community.

Friday, May 15th, there will be an Ice Cream Social at Crane Chapel from 5-7pm to honor cancer survivors and caregivers.

Taste of the Nations is coming up on May 16th from 11am-1pm!

Saturday, May 16th is the annual Spring into Summer Craft and Vendor Show in Austin at the Mower County Fairgrounds.

Shoutouts

Congratulations to Austin Bruins Events Coordinator Sue Stowell on being named the NAHL Volunteer of the Year. Sue’s dedication to the Bruins organization and the Austin community has made a lasting impact on players, fans, and families alike. From coordinating player appearances to serving as a billet host, her commitment and generosity truly embody the spirit of community service.

Congratulations also to the Austin Bruins on being named Organization of the Year by the North American Hockey League. This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, staff, volunteers, and loyal fans who continue to make the Bruins an important part of the Austin community.

The Austin City Council recently recognized several Austin Police Department officers for exceptional service and lifesaving actions in our community. Officers Tamke, Hansen, Bradley, and Sherwood were honored for responding to critical emergencies, including assisting suicidal individuals, rescuing a person in danger in the water, stopping severe bleeding at a stabbing scene, and performing lifesaving CPR and AED intervention at accident and medical scenes. Their professionalism, quick thinking, and dedication helped save lives and reflect the very best of public service in Austin. Congratulations, and thank you for your service!
