Hello Neighbors,
With just one week left in session, things are moving quickly at the Capitol as we work to finish up key priorities and finalize bills for this session. Outside the busy pace of session, this weekend also brings two Minnesota traditions that many families look forward to every year: the fishing opener and Mother’s Day. Whether you’re heading to the lake early Saturday morning, gathering with family to celebrate the moms and mother figures in your life, or simply enjoying a spring weekend together, I hope you have a chance to recharge and make the most of this special time of year in Minnesota.
As I shared already, we are heading into our last week of the legislative session. Our constitutional adjournment date is Sunday, May 17th, meaning that we must wrap all of our business up by midnight that day. We have been working hard to deliver on affordability, school safety, and stopping fraud. Some of these we have made good progress on, but much is still up in the air until we get closer to the end and take final votes on our bills. I hope to have an update for you soon.
Back in district, great work has been happening on the military museum in Little Falls. If you haven't driven by the new Military and Veterans Museum (Hwy 371 & 115) recently, it looks like a can't-miss destination. Thanks to the construction crews who have been hard at work for the last 18 months, the museum will have its grand opening the weekend of September 12th and 13th. It will be a busy weekend for the region, coinciding with the always popular Craft Fair. The museum will broadcast a new 1-hour documentary at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 11th to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Saturday and Sunday, at the museum, will be packed with special presentations and family-friendly activities. A full line-up of events will be posted online on June 1st. To receive the latest updates, visit mnvetmuseum.org and sign up for the e-newsletter.
I hope you enjoy this weekend, with pretty nice weather in the forecast, and several fun events that I mentioned in the beginning. Happy Mother's Day and fishing opener, and I hope you have fun no matter what your plans are. Also, congrats to the Aitkin Economics team on their recent second place finish at the Economics Challenge Championship.
BTW: By the way, this week was Nurse Appreciation Week, Teacher Appreciation Week, Small Business Week, Firefighter Appreciation Day, and Correctional Officers Appreciation Week. Thank you to everyone who works in one of these very important professions for our communities.
