Legislative Update

Hello friends,

I hope you are enjoying the start of spring and finding time to get outside with family and friends. The weather has been slowly getting better as we get deeper into spring! Things have been busy at the Capitol, and I want to take a few minutes to share an update on what we have been working on and where things stand as we head into the final stretch of session.

Updates from the Capitol

We are now past all of the committee deadlines, which means most committee work has wrapped up and the focus has shifted almost entirely to the House floor. With about three weeks left in session, the pace has picked up as we debate and vote on the bills that remain. In a closely divided House, that means focusing on proposals that can earn bipartisan support and actually make it across the finish line. The priority over these final weeks is clear: deliver results for Minnesotans, with a focus on affordability, addressing fraud, and advancing practical solutions before the constitutional deadline.

Mueller Minute

In this weeks Mueller Minute, I talk about our education budget and the potential impacts on special education, especially according to the Governor's budget proposal.

Events

Tomorrow, Saturday, April 25th is the annual Austin Cares: Community Cleanup event.

Tomorrow is also the Pheasants Forever Bingo event, beginning at 12:30 at the Old 7th Event Center and Show Grounds.

We are officially in the midst of the city-wide Grand Meadow Rummage Sale from now through the 26th!

Saturday May 2nd is the 50th anniversary of the Blooming Prairie library. There will be a picnic to celebrate! Other events for the anniversary listed here.

Friday, May 15th, there will be an Ice Cream Social at Crane Chapel from 5-7pm to honor cancer survivors and caregivers.

Taste of the Nations is coming up on May 16th from 11am-1pm!

Saturday, May 16th is the annual Spring into Summer Craft and Vendor Show in Austin at the Mower County Fairgrounds.

Shoutouts

Congratulations to Southland Baseball pitcher Easton Meyer on throwing a no-hitter this week. Way to go!

Congratulations to Austin Speech Coach Dan Evans Hanson on being named the Section 1AA Coach of the Year!

Huge congratulations to Mya Opsahl, Austin High School band student, on her selection to the 2026-2027 MMEA Minnesota All-State Band!

Shoutout to the 9 Lyle FFA students who attended the 97th annual State FFA convention in St. Paul this week!

Blooming Prairie FFA students, Wyatt Magnuson and Miley Ripka, received their State FFA Degrees Monday night at the Minnesota State FFA Convention!
