Hello Neighbors,
Although it feels like the temperatures plummet every time it gets warm, I think we can finally admit that spring is really here. I have mentioned it before, but the fishing opener is just around the corner. I hope you are as excited as I am and have been enjoying the nice weather when it's around.
Back in St. Paul, we've been hard at work navigating a challenging legislative session. With our third and final committee deadline now behind us, the focus has shifted from committee work to passing bills off the floor. Last week, I had the honor of chairing my final Education Finance Committee meeting, concluding an important chapter of my service in the legislature. Over my time leading this committee, I've been proud to advocate for policies that support our students, empower our educators, and give parents a stronger voice in their children's education. Whether it's ensuring adequate funding for our schools, supporting teacher recruitment and retention, or championing parental involvement in education decisions, I've worked to put students first. Now, as we enter the final phase of the session, my focus remains on working with colleagues across party lines to deliver tangible results for Minnesota's students, educators, and families.
It was an honor to be recognized on the House floor for my years of service to my wonderful constituents and the people of MN.

On the House floor yesterday, we passed HF4052. I am proud to be the author of this bill that will bring Minnesota’s telecommunications laws into the modern era. Much of our current statute was written for a landline system that simply doesn’t reflect how people communicate today. This bill cuts through outdated regulations, streamlines requirements, and gives providers the flexibility to invest in and expand reliable service, especially in Greater Minnesota where connectivity is critical for work, education, and health care. By reducing unnecessary red tape and aligning policy with today’s technology, HF 4052 supports innovation, strengthens infrastructure, and helps ensure Minnesotans have access to dependable, affordable communication services moving forward. I have always been an advocate for rural broadband and other technology for rural Minnesota, and this bill is just another step in the right direction for our residents.
In the office, I had a great meeting with Rep. Schomacker and industry professionals for MN Care Providers Day. I appreciate the time we had to talk and for these constituents to travel to St. Paul for a visit.

Looking ahead at the legislature, much of our time will be spent passing mostly single-subject, and always bipartisan, bills off the floor. For example, we passed 31 bills just this week on a range of issues with broad, bipartisan support. We will continue to work in this manner and make a difference for Minnesotans as we head towards adjournment. I remain steadfast in my commitment to protect special education funding, working for tax relief, and addressing our rampant fraud problem.
BTW: By the way, I want to give a huge shoutout to our two Aitkin Knowledge Bowl teams, that placed second and third at the State Knowledge Bowl competition in the single "A", 15-team division. Congratulations, teams.
