Hello Neighbors,
After many people watched the Master's tournament take place in beautiful and sunny Augusta, Georgia, I think we can officially say that spring is underway now that the Little Falls Golf Course is open for the season. We may not be completely out of the woods with cooler temperatures expected this weekend, but I certainly enjoy the nicer days when we have them. I hope you have the chance to get outside and enjoy the transition to spring as well.
Back at the Capitol this week, House Republicans brought forward a comprehensive school safety proposal in the Education Finance Committee focused on making immediate, practical improvements for students and staff across Minnesota. The plan increases funding for school safety, expands student mental health support, strengthens school safety planning, and provides schools with flexible options for anonymous threat reporting. It also includes discipline reforms and additional resources to help schools maintain safe, supportive learning environments. These are commonsense solutions built on what we’ve heard from parents, teachers, and school leaders.
Unfortunately, Democrats voted to block the proposal, delaying meaningful improvements that could help protect students and staff right now. I remain committed to working toward practical solutions that improve school safety for every student, no matter where they learn. I remain focused on working toward real solutions that improve safety in our schools, even when that work comes with significant opposition. Too often, proposals that focus on practical improvements get caught up in broader disagreements between the Legislature and the Governor’s office. While we may not agree on every approach, I believe we can and should come together around commonsense steps that make a difference for students and teachers right now. I will continue advocating for practical, achievable solutions and working with anyone willing to put school safety ahead of politics.

As we continue working through the session, we have a few key dates upcoming. First, our third and final committee deadline is today. This means that most of our committees will stop meeting and floor sessions may become longer. Second, our constitutional adjournment date is May 18th. This means that we have just 4 weeks left to wrap up our legislative business before the regular session ends. I will continue to update you on our work as we get closer to May 18th.
BTW: By the way, I hope all our local high school students that are attending Prom this weekend have a wonderful time! These are moments you will remember forever, be safe and have fun.
