Touring MNCS!
I also had the chance to tour Minnesota New Country School in Henderson with Ashlynn Dhaene. It’s always worth taking the time to get into schools and see what’s actually happening day to day. MNCS does things a little differently, and it was helpful to hear directly from the people involved and see how it’s working for students.
Fighting for Girls' Sports
On Tuesday, we had a floor vote on House File 2685 The bill was simple. It would have made sure girls compete against girls in school sports.
That shouldn’t be a complicated issue. It’s about fairness, safety, and making sure girls have the same opportunities that past generations fought for.
The bill didn’t pass. Not a single House Democrat voted for it.
Then yesterday, we voted on two bills that were aimed at something I hear about constantly: affordability.
One would have lowered car tab fees and brought them more in line with what people pay in neighboring states. Right now, Minnesotans are paying way more than they should just to register their vehicles.
The other would have provided property tax relief. Property taxes have gone up fast, and people are feeling it. This was a chance to give some of that relief back.
Both bills were voted down unanimously by House Democrats, but the issue is not over.
Planning for the Future
We also introduced our North Star Comeback plan this week. It builds on a lot of the same concerns I hear from people across the district. The focus is on lowering costs, getting government back to basics, and making sure people have a real opportunity to get ahead.
That includes ideas like reducing car tab fees, providing meaningful tax relief, supporting schools in a way that actually reaches students, and putting stronger safeguards in place to deal with fraud and misuse of taxpayer dollars.
I think many Minnesotans agree these are pretty straightforward solutions and I hope you’ll join me in pushing for these changes whether it's this year or the next.
We’ve still got a few weeks left in session. There’s a lot that needs to get done, and I’m going to keep working for solutions that actually make a difference for the people I represent.
Have a great weekend,
