Hello Neighbors,
I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend, as did I. I enjoy the time spent with family and the opportunity to reflect on the end of the season of Lent and the meaning of Easter. I hope you were able to do the same. We are back in full gear here in St. Paul after our short holiday break, and I have a few updates from the Capitol for you.
As we head toward the final stretch of session, myself and my Republican colleagues are staying focused on making life more affordable for Minnesota families. Yesterday, we brought forward several bills to provide real relief, including proposals to reduce car tab fees and provide a property tax refund to help families and taxpayers facing rising costs. These efforts build on our broader affordability package aimed at lowering taxes, reducing government burdens, and fixing everyday expenses like energy and housing. With time running short, we will keep pushing practical, commonsense solutions to help Minnesotans keep more of their hard-earned money and bring down the cost of living across our state.
This goes hand in hand with budget talks that have been ongoing for a while now. As I have mentioned before, Governor Walz has proposed budget increases, while cutting the budget in areas such as special education. This is absolutely unacceptable, as we will not be balancing the state budget on our vulnerable. Our strategy is different, making targeted budget reductions to provide much needed relief to families, taxpayers, and small businesses, while protecting funding for those in need. I will keep you updated as budget negotiations continue.
Now that it's April, one thing is for sure: spring sports are here! There are a handful of sports events in the area this weekend that you may want to check out, from track to baseball and others in between. I hope you have the opportunity to get out and enjoy the weather and our local high school sports teams.
BTW: By the way, we are about a month away from the MN fish opener for walleye, sauger, northern pike, muskellunge, and bass. Make sure you're ready now so you can get out there on May 9th.
