Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Easter weekend. I am grateful for the time that I had to spend with my family and remember Christ's great sacrifice for us. We are now back at the Capitol and hard at work after having last week off. As we move further into the final weeks of the legislative session, the pace continues to pick up. We are working through budget negotiations, debating bills on the House floor, and focusing on issues that impact families and communities across our district. There is still important work ahead, and I remain committed to finding practical solutions that support affordability, strengthen accountability, and deliver results for you!
Preserving Girls' Sports
As a mom to daughters, this issue is deeply personal to me. I want my girls, and every young woman in Minnesota, to have the same opportunities to compete, grow, and succeed that generations before them fought to achieve. Girls’ sports build confidence, teach teamwork, and open doors to scholarships and future opportunities. Protecting those opportunities matters.
This week, the House considered three bills focused on preserving girls’ sports: : HF12, HF2685, and HF1233. I am proud to be the chief author of HF2685, which aims to ensure girls’ athletic opportunities remain fair and competitive. You can see my statement on my bill from the House floor here. These proposals were designed to keep girls’ sports designated for biological females and maintain a level playing field for female athletes across Minnesota.
These efforts reflect the original intent of Title IX, which has helped expand opportunities for girls and women in athletics for more than 50 years. There is also growing recognition of this issue beyond Minnesota. The International Olympic Committee has taken steps to emphasize fairness and safety in women’s athletics, reinforcing the importance of protecting opportunities for female athletes.
While these bills did not pass, because the DFL believes that gender is a "colonial export," I remain committed to continuing this work. As both a legislator and a mom, I believe we have a responsibility to stand up for girls and ensure they have fair opportunities to compete, succeed, and thrive in sports.
 Making Minnesota More Affordable
Another one of my top priorities this session is making Minnesota more affordable, especially for families, seniors, and small businesses. With rising costs across the board, we are focused on practical solutions that help people keep more of their hard-earned money and ease the burden of everyday expenses.
A key part of this effort is working to reduce car tab fees, which have become increasingly expensive for many Minnesotans. For families with multiple vehicles, these costs add up quickly. Lowering tab fees is a straightforward way to provide immediate relief and make transportation more affordable.
We are also pushing for property tax relief. Property taxes continue to rise for homeowners, farmers, and small business owners, putting added strain on household budgets. Expanding property tax refunds and pursuing broader relief measures can help reduce this burden and provide meaningful savings.
In addition, we are working to improve the Pass-Through Entity (PTE) tax to ensure it continues to benefit small businesses and farmers. HF3127 modifies the expiration of Minnesota’s PTE tax, extending the availability of this option through tax year 2027. This helps partnerships, S-corporations, and other small businesses continue using the PTE election to receive federal tax benefits and avoid unnecessary tax increases. By extending this provision, the bill provides certainty and stability for small businesses planning for the future.
These efforts are all part of a broader push to make Minnesota more affordable, strengthen our economy, and support the people who live and work in our communities. I will continue working toward commonsense solutions that lower costs and make our state a better place to live, work, and raise a family.
Quick Committee Update
I am excited to share that I have been selected to serve on the Public Safety Committee for the rest of this session, in addition to the three other committees that I already sit on. I look forward to jumping right in, and working alongside my colleagues on important public safety issues and legislation!
Shoutouts
I want to give a quick shoutout to everyone who came to the Capitol this week in support of Parental Rights. There was an awesome, and very well attended, rally to advocate for children and parents across the state. It is so encouraging to see rallies like this and thank you for the work you do!
Thank you especially to constituents Jamie Preble, Sarah Hoeft, and their kiddos who attended the rally and allowed me to give them a tour of the Capitol. It is so great to see faces from the district in St. Paul for important events such as this one.
Shoutout to Bill Magnuson, PLHS Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, on being awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Minnesota Football Coaches Association (MFCA). Mr. Magnuson has been a head football coach for 28 years, served as a classroom teacher for 30 years, and is in his 2nd year as athletic director.
Congratulations to the Subsection 6A East Speech Champions. Go, Patriots!
