Legislative Update
Hello friends,
Our work at the Capitol is picking up pace as we approach the first and second committee deadlines next Friday. With those deadlines quickly approaching, committees are working through a high volume of bills and moving key legislation forward. It’s a busy stretch, and we’re focused on advancing priorities and getting important work across the finish line.
Updates from the Capitol
My bills:
HF3421 - Early literacy field experience required for teacher candidates providing early literacy instruction, rulemaking required, and money appropriated. Was heard in Education Policy on 03/10 and was laid over.
HF3489 - Field trip policy established, reporting to licensing boards required, and criminal offense of grooming established. Heard in Education Policy on 02/24 and sent to Public Safety. Passed Public Safety unanimously and is heading to Children and Families next.
HF3490 & HF3491 - Scholarship-granting organizations authorized. HF3490 was heard in Education Finance and laid over for future consideration.
HF3492 - Commissioner of education authorized to award school safety facility grants to schools to enhance safety for students and staff. Heard in Education Finance and laid over for consideration at a later date.
HF3493 - Safe schools revenue increased; safe schools revenue available to charter schools, cooperative units, nonpublic schools, and Tribal contract schools made. Heard in Education Finance and laid over for consideration at a later date.
HF3495 - School safety grant eligibility expanded to nonpublic and Tribal contract schools.
HF3550 - School districts allowed to implement local health education standards.
HF3597 - Certain S corporations exempted from the paid leave program. Heard in Labor Committee on 03/18 and voted down by the DFL Committee members.
HF3650 - Student career pathways framework established, and report required. Heard in Workforce on 02/26 and sent to Education Finance. Will have a hearing on 03/24 in Education Finance.
