Dear Neighbor,
The Democrat Party has been completely captured by unserious activists, and that’s not just a problem for them. It’s a problem for the state.
Just look at the abomination this legislative session has become in the House. The session is now 25 percent complete, and Democrats have wasted every opportunity to do something productive in this body. Seemingly every single bill that they’re presenting in committee hearings is legislation they know can’t pass a tied House and is entirely performative messaging for partisan likes and political purposes.
In many cases, what the Democrats propose is outright unconstitutional. Whether it’s a plot to force the feds to do something which we, as a state, literally can’t do, or pushing to take all your guns away and turn your father, your grandpa and your uncle into felons for owning what they’ve owned for 20 years.
Minnesota has real problems, but Democrats are not taking their responsibility seriously. Their job is to address the issues of Minnesotans, but they act like hired protest warriors and use your taxpayer-funded public resources at the House to facilitate their activism, as opposed to actually serving you. This week, one House Democrat spoke about studying the benefits of shoplifting. Click here to see for yourself.
I’m sick and tired of it. I wake up every morning questioning why even come in. It’s that dire in St. Paul for anyone who dares dream of really doing their job to help make life better for their constituents or Minnesotans in general.
Honor, the personal sense of pride and responsibility, and the fact that I was hired by my constituents to do a job keeps me going. That’s apparently not a conviction that’s shared by the other side because the Democrats have us on course for a session where we accomplish nothing.
I’m sure there are some conservative voices that might say, “Well, government not doing anything sounds like a good thing!” OK, that makes good rhetoric, but there are actual problems that need to be solved. Like the fraud that’s overtaken our state and is crushing taxpayers.
An interesting committee hearing on that very subject occurred earlier this week. We are told that the number of claims for non-emergency medical transportation have dropped by a whopping 62 percent since around last April. Testifiers tried to explain it away with any number of flimsy excuses such as they have a year to complete their billing, so we don’t know yet how much they’re eventually, someday, going to claim.
Got it. Except we’re also told by state officials that these NEMT providers can’t afford to install GPS and camera monitoring to enhance accountability, because it costs too much – at $30 per vehicle, per month. In other words, their margins are so thin that they can’t afford $30 per month, but they can afford to not bill for six months? That doesn’t jive. It’s just more games being played and excuses being made.
If you’re going to waste my time, at least be honest about it. But don’t expect me to take this nonsense seriously. And don’t expect me to grant any benefit of doubt that you’re serious, because your actions speak louder than your words.
What we’re really witnessing in St. Paul is the sticky residue of Democrats getting comfortable with their one-party control when they exerted their will unchecked last biennium. They still have not accepted the fact that they’re no longer in control. Now, their default position is, if we can't have what we want, then nobody can have anything. It’s like the jealous boyfriend who turns to toxicity when the girl rejects him because, if he can’t have her, nobody can.
Democrats must think Minnesotans are gullible enough to fall for their theater schtick. That you don’t know any better. What an absolute slap in the face to the good people of our state.
Sincerely,
Walter
