Koznick Applauds Major Transportation Wins for South Metro Communities!
ST. PAUL, MN — Transportation Chair Jon Koznick celebrated the news that multiple transportation projects in our district and surrounding area have been selected for significant funding awards from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), kicking off the new year with great news for safety, connectivity, and community growth.
“I am incredibly pleased to share that our strong advocacy on behalf of Elko New Market, Lakeville, and the surrounding communities has produced real results,” said Rep. Koznick.
“Thanks to prioritized support and collaboration with local partners, the County Road 2 project, the County Road 50/5 interchange, and key I-35 improvements have received sufficient MnDOT funding to move these projects forward much earlier.”
“Kicking off the new year with news like this truly feels like a Christmas present for our communities,” Rep. Koznick added. “I have worked intensely to find ways to fund critical projects with existing funds. These investments will improve safety and prepare our communities for a bright future. Happy New Year!”
These investments—part of MnDOT’s recently announced $76.2 million in transportation funding statewide—include:
Elko New Market / Scott County Road 2 Interchange ($7M) — to reconstruct the interchange with a modern design that will improve safety and mobility while preparing for future growth in the community.
Lakeville / Dakota County Roads 50 and 5 at I-35 Interchange Reconstruction ($7M) — to expand capacity, strengthen freight mobility, and enhance safety for all travelers through improved ramps, auxiliary lanes, and multimodal access. This grant coincides with a $40M Trunk Highway grant for I-35 in the 2025 Transportation Bill.
Highway 13 Corridor Mobility and Safety Improvements Project ($17.9M) — which will construct new interchanges and overpasses at key intersections along Highway 13 in Burnsville and Savage.
Expand Dakota County Road 46 (160th Street) ($3.85M) — to four lanes from Highway 3 (Chippendale Avenue) to Highway 52 near Coates and add two roundabouts to enhance safety and traffic movement.
“These projects represent a major step forward for South Metro infrastructure,” Rep. Koznick said. “Improving safety, reducing congestion, enhancing commerce, and planning responsibly for the future are top priorities, and I’m so proud of the work our House Transportation Committee did to secure these resources.”
