Legislative Update
I hope you’ve been enjoying the beautiful fall weather across the west metro. Between football games, neighborhood bonfires, and early holiday planning, it’s been great to see so many familiar faces around town. As we head into November, I wanted to share a few highlights from recent community events and the work happening locally and at the Capitol.
Highway 7 Coalition
Improving safety along Highway 7 continues to be one of the top priorities I hear for the district. Our coalition is bringing together local, county, and state partners to identify solutions and secure the resources needed for real improvements. Thank you to Sergeant Adam Moore for his leadership in organizing this effort and building a strong foundation for future investment in our corridor. I’m grateful for the collaboration from our local mayors, city councils, administrators, MnDOT, and the many residents who have shared their ideas. This kind of teamwork is exactly how we make government work better for our communities.

Backyard Food Shelf Challenge
A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who joined or supported our Backyard Food Shelf Challenge! When times get tough, Minnesotans always step up to help one another. I’m grateful for the support from Mackenthun’s and the Minnesota Grocers Association, and proud of how our community continues to rally behind local food shelves like the Westonka Community Food Shelf in Mound, PROP in Eden Prairie, and ICA in Minnetonka. While some point fingers, our neighbors get to work, and that’s what makes this area special.
Child Care Affordability and Access
Everywhere I go—soccer games, the grocery store, or school events—parents are talking about the high cost of childcare. I’ve been working with local providers like Kids Core to identify solutions that make childcare more affordable and accessible for families. As a parent, I understand how important it is to have reliable care that doesn’t break the bank. I’m drafting legislation that addresses these challenges head-on, to give parents peace of mind and help more Minnesotans in the workforce. As Co-Chair of the Suburban Solutions Caucus, we’ve pursued policies such as expanding the dependent tax credit and increasing FSA contributions to help make childcare more affordable, and we will continue to explore other options as we begin session in 2026

Outdoor Adventures
Winter is right around the corner (sorry to say it!), but that also means it’s snowmobiling season. I recently had the opportunity to speak at the Minnesota United Snowmobilers Association convention alongside Secretary of State Steve Simon. We discussed trail maintenance, property rights, and expanding access to outdoor recreation for the next generation. I’m working with the organization to explore new ideas, including investments in trail and bridge infrastructure and even the creation of a Winter Outdoor License Plate to support Minnesota’s trail system.
November Community Events
I always enjoy hearing about and attending local events that bring our communities together. With Thanksgiving and Veterans Day approaching, there are plenty of ways to connect and give back. The Westonka Community Food Shelf will be hosting a free Thanksgiving dinner, and there are many events planned across the entire district including:
Community Poll
Our last community poll showed overwhelming opposition to the recent policy change made by Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty to stop prosecuting crimes resulting from routine traffic stops.
-
91.2% of you disagreed with the policy change,
As always, thank you for your participation. I will continue to work with the County Attorney’s Office, city officials, our neighbors, and, of course, our law enforcement agencies to hopefully reverse this decision and do everything we can to keep our communities safe.
This Week’s Question:
Outdoor recreation, from hiking, kayaking, fishing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and skiing, is a huge part of what makes Minnesota great. However, funding is always needed to preserve the quality of our recreational spaces for generations to come.
Would you support a Winter Outdoor License Plate that features snowmobiling and ice fishing, with proceeds dedicated to improving trails and protecting clean water? This would function similarly to the critical habitats plates, which help raise money for the DNR for wildlife preservation.
Share Your Ideas
As we prepare for the 2026 session, I want to hear from you. What issues matter most to your family, business, community, schools, and more? Whether it’s property taxes, public safety, clean water, education, infrastructure, or reducing fraud in state programs, your input helps shape my priorities at the Capitol. Please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts or bill ideas via email, my office, or cell line below.
Thank you again for your engagement, and I wish you all a safe and meaningful Veterans Day as we honor those who’ve served.
Warm Regards,
|
