Legislative Update
As we move deeper into the fall season, I’ve continued meeting with local businesses, community organizations, local leaders, and families to discuss what’s working and where we can improve. From workplace safety to education and business growth, I’m committed to finding common-sense solutions that strengthen our communities and bring people together.
Whether it’s through conversations and collaboration at local events or tours with Minnesota industry and labor, my goal remains the same: to listen, learn, and create practical solutions that reflect the values of our district and Minnesotans.
Listening, Learning, and Creating Solutions
This past week, I had the opportunity to tour Tennant Company with our neighbor and CEO, Dave Huml. Tennant is one of Minnesota’s oldest and most respected businesses, known for innovation that helps keep our state clean and sustainable.
Our conversation centered on the challenges that Minnesota businesses face, including high costs, regulatory hurdles, and a lack of recognition for the strength of our workforce. We have some of the best talent and innovative industries in the country, but to stay competitive, we must invest in both labor and business.
As an attorney who represents businesses and workers, I have seen the environment deteriorate over the past 10 years. We need to inspire and re-ignite the business landscape right here in our backyard. As your State Representative, I’ll continue working to incentivize innovation, build a framework to retain and build new opportunities, and retain good jobs right here in Minnesota. Strong businesses create strong communities, and strong communities depend on strong workers.

Honoring Our Nurses
 |
|
This week marks Emergency Nurse Appreciation Week, but for many of us, that gratitude extends year-round. As the husband of a nurse, I’ve seen firsthand the dedication, long hours, and compassion that define this profession.
In the Legislature, I’ve been proud to support policies that protect those who care for us. My bill, HF 641, focuses on workplace safety for nurses and health care staff, ensuring that their work environment is safe, supportive, and sustainable. Our health care heroes deserve not just our thanks, but real action to back it up.

Community Highlights: Fall Festivals in Full Swing
Minnesota’s fall traditions are in full swing, and it’s been wonderful to see so many of you at local events across the district. At the WeCAN Open House in Mound (right), I had the opportunity to visit with volunteers and staff who dedicate their time to helping our most vulnerable neighbors. The organization’s work is a shining example of what community support looks like—neighbors stepping up to ensure no one is left behind.
I also joined the Excelsior Fire Department, Long Lake Fire Department, and South Lake Minnetonka Police Department for their annual Fire Open House, an event that celebrates the men and women who keep our communities safe. Their commitment and readiness to serve remind us why we are so fortunate to live in communities where people care deeply about one another’s well-being.
The Minnetonka and Mound Westonka Homecomings were another highlight filled with energy, school pride, and the joy of seeing families and alumni reconnect. It was great to watch our students and athletes represent their schools with such enthusiasm and teamwork.
To round out the week, my son and I attended Excelsior Apple Days, one of our area’s most cherished fall events. Local artists, small businesses, and families came together to enjoy a warm autumn day, celebrating everything that makes our community special. Events like these remind me how much pride and spirit our towns have, and why I remain so passionate about representing our incredible neighbors.

Community Voice Poll
Thank you to everyone who weighed in on last month’s poll about security checkpoints at the Capitol. The question was: Would you support the use of security checkpoints, including metal detectors, to enter the State Capitol and the adjacent legislative offices?
Many who answered other raised concerns about school safety. In response, one proposal being considered would give schools more flexibility to invest in security enhancements, backed by a new grant program to ensure every school has resources to protect students and staff. The goal is to strengthen safety without compromising the welcoming, supportive environment that allows students to learn and grow.
At the same time, I’m working with public safety experts on legislation to improve enforcement of gun crimes and explore new tools, including AI, to help law enforcement identify potential red flags before they become a crisis. I'm also open to discussing common-sense reforms that punish gun crime and keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous individuals. Unfortunately, the Hennepin County Attorney's recent decision to stop prosecuting felonies stemming from low-level traffic stops is counterintuitive to these common-sense solutions, but we will continue to work with her office and on legislation to keep our communities safe.
This week's Question
Minnesota currently averages one counselor for every 550 students, compared to the national average of roughly 400 students per counselor.
Would you support additional funding, either through property taxes or state dollars, to provide more mental health support for students at all Minnesota schools (public, private, and charter)?
Backyard Conversations
Every week, I have dozens of conversations with you at coffee shops, grocery stores, cross-country meets, and local restaurants. The message I keep hearing is clear: our neighbors want leaders who listen and create solutions to our shared priorities.
I’ll be hosting in-district office hours on October 15th from 9:00–11:00 a.m. in Long Lake. This is a chance to sit down together, share your ideas, and talk about the priorities that matter most in our community. If you’d like to reserve a time, please send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you.
Warm regards,
