Can you feel it? Fall is sneaking in—the leaves are crunching under our boots, pumpkin spice is making appearances everywhere, and suddenly my flannel collection has a valid excuse. Summer’s beach towels are officially packed away, and we’re diving headfirst into this week’s update. Grab your latte; this one’s going to be good!
Minnesotans Speak: Mental Health and Second Amendment Rights
Just like the seasons change, it seems the Governor wants to change the legislative calendar too—hint: he’s talking about a potential special session. But the good news? Minnesotans are making it crystal clear what matters most.
A fresh KSTP poll released Wednesday shows 40% of Minnesotans want mental health to be the number-one focus if a special session happens. Guns came in second at 30%, school security at 17%, and criminal penalties at 10%. Translation: nearly 70% of Minnesotans are backing the issues we’ve been championing—versus just 30% supporting more gun control.
As for the proposed “assault weapon” ban? Support isn’t exactly universal. In the Twin Cities, 61% are on board, but across greater Minnesota, support drops well below 50%. Overall, only a slim majority—53%—support it. And with these bans being challenged in courts nationwide, there’s room for smarter, positive solutions right here in Minnesota.

We’re Shutting Down Fraud—And Preventing It in the Future
While we’re keeping our focus on mental health, student safety, and real consequences for criminals, Minnesota has another “can you believe this?” fraud story in the headlines. Honestly, it’s starting to feel like a weekly saga. But here’s the deal: House Republicans holding the fraudsters accountable—and making sure this kind of nonsense doesn’t happen again.
Two weeks ago, the House Fraud Committee learned the feds are auditing Minnesota’s Medicaid autism therapy services back to 2019—and they might even expand the investigation. That’s welcome news, especially after KARE 11 revealed DHS ignored repeated warnings about fraud in the Housing Stabilization Services program.
We’re talking bribes, fake records, even billing for people who had passed away—all while real Minnesotans went without help. One person asked DHS for the assistance they were entitled to, and the response? “Do it yourself.” Yep. [Watch the story here.]
And get this—right before the House Fraud Committee was set to hear testimony from DHS Deputy Commissioner Eric Grumdahl, he wasn’t Deputy Commissioner anymore. Bad timing? Maybe. Dodging accountability? Definitely.
This week, federal prosecutors charged eight people for defrauding the Housing Stabilization Services program out of $8.4 million—money that should have gone to seniors, people with disabilities, and Minnesotans in recovery. Instead? Luxury cars, overseas investments, and personal expenses.
From Feeding Our Future to autism therapy to Housing Stabilization Services, the story’s been the same: for years, fraudsters were cashing in while Minnesotans in need got left behind—and state agencies mostly shrugged. Those days are over. We’re here to serve you well, spend your money wisely, and make sure every Minnesotan gets the help they deserve.

Dassel-Cokato School: Pray at the Pole
Sometimes the smallest gestures can leave the biggest impact. Joining students at Dassel-Cokato for Pray at the Pole reminded me of just that. In a simple moment of faith, these young people brought hope, gratitude, and courage not only to their own hearts but to their entire school community. It was inspiring to see how much strength and connection can come from taking a quiet step toward faith and reflection—proof that even small acts can ripple far beyond what we imagine.
 McLeod County Township Meeting, Glencoe
Spent the day connecting with neighbors, listening to concerns, and sharing a legislative update alongside Senator Glenn Gruenhagen and Representative Bobbie Harder. It’s always energizing to see democracy in action and to hear directly from the people we serve.
  Missoula, MT: Go Grizz!
Got to fly out to Missoula to cheer on my boys, Eli and Monte, as they hit the football field—what a joy to watch them play! And a big shoutout to Cop Kurt and his daughter, who work tirelessly keeping everyone safe while we enjoy the game. Family, football, and community—couldn’t ask for a better weekend!
