Dear friends and neighbors on the Iron Range,
I’m hoping everyone is getting the chance to enjoy the better weather as we start to see the close of the summer, giving way to autumn (yes, I said it!). A lot of friends will welcome “hoodie weather”, but I’m just glad it’s not the heating season yet...
These past couple weeks have given me some nice meetings with you all in the community. If we had a chance to connect, then I’m grateful – if not, I’ll hope to see you soon!
Students: U.S. Service Academy Opportunity
Students have an exciting opportunity to learn about earning a nomination to the United States Service Academies. On September 23rd from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., Congressman Pete Stauber will be joined by representatives from all five service branches. The event will highlight academy programs and opportunities, life at the academies, the application process, and how to receive a Congressional nomination. I encourage interested students and parents to attend and take advantage of this unique opportunity!
Annual Iron Mining Assn. Golf Tournament
Last week, I attended the Iron Mining Association (IMA) annual golf event with Iron Range Resources. Giants Ridge was the perfect host with excellent courses, food, and staff; thanks to everyone who made the event possible. I was fortunate to have great teammates—Tyler Hakala of Ziegler Cat, Jeff Mayer of New Range, and Gabe Spiering of Aquapower. It’s always great to connect with other folks that work in, or serve, our mining industry on the Range!

Road to the Curling Championship
In the curling world, Team Shuster and Team Peterson came out on top and will advance to represent us in the U.S. Steel Pan Continental Curling Championships. This is a key qualifier for the 2026 World Curling Championships, which will take place right here in Eveleth and Virginia this fall. It is an incredible opportunity for our communities to showcase world-class curling.
Ride, Raffle, ‘n Roll
I was glad to see so many friends and motorcyclists come out to support the Ride, Raffle 'n Roll for ALS, which started out at the Timber Hall in Embarrass with a pancake breakfast fundraiser. Despite the threat of rain the tour went on, and it was inspiring to watch the community rally together for such an important cause. A big thank-you goes to the volunteers and organizers who made the event a success.
