Dear friends and neighbors on the Iron Range,
I hope everyone had a great week, between the raindrops. It’s been a relief to see the air clear up after the all the recent smoke. We’ve had some positive progress in the community this week, and I’m glad to share it with you.
Broadband in the Area
Contractors for Paul Bunyan Communications are going strong on the Range! The current project will impact the townships of Angora, Balkan, French and Great Scott. If you live in one of these areas and are interested in signing up for this broadband internet option, the time is now! Take a look at the brochure below for more information on how to sign up and take advantage of this new service. On a similar note, contractors with Central Telephone Co. (CTC) are now laying fiber-optic cabling in Clinton Township, and intend to have that up and running by (don’t quote me) the end of the year. This is a much-awaited project in our township, serving unserved and under-served areas with this technology will be a game changer for our residents!

Volunteer with Me!
Please join me on Friday, August 29th at the North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity project home in Virginia, MN (1019 7th Ave. North), for a chance to serve your community in the housing realm. Our volunteer shift will roughly be from 9:00am to 4:00pm, and the work will consist of framing and sheeting a home. This is not a political event, but rather a chance to give back and help in one of our neighborhoods. No matter your reason for wanting to help, please consider – no tools or experience necessary!
To sign up, please reach out to my legislative assistant, Kate, by email or phone (651-297-7157). The deadline to sign up is noon on Sunday, August 24th. Spots are limited, so sign up soon! I look forward to coming together and working for our community! The photo attached is of a similar home being built, just for your reference.

National Night Out
This past Tuesday was National Night Out, and Maria and I had the opportunity to attend four different events over the course of the evening:
Starting in Virginia at Olcott Park, the Virginia Parks and Recreation brought together a host of vendors and organized activities. Classic cars, the Virginia Police and Fire Departments, and many other vendors really made a great event.
Next, we hit up Wouri Township for a barbeque with brats and other food from F & D Meats – fantastic stuff! They also had their volunteer Fire Department along with music from the “Hutter Bunch.” Thanks to them, and all the volunteers who made this possible!
In Mt. Iron, we visited the party at West Two Rivers Reservoir. Their Fire Department had a great program for the kids. Armory Shell Towing had some huge trucks on display, and councillor Brad Gustafson was there at the prize table and running the show too. Thank you to all who organized and volunteered!
We rounded out the evening in Clinton Township, at (what seemed to be) the largest event of the four with over 400 people in attendance. In the theme of fire departments, this get-together boasted 3 departments: Cherry Fire, Mcdavitt Fire, and the Clinton Volunteer FD and EMS. St. Louis County Sheriff’s department was there with several officers, squads, and the K-9 unit too – our folks in law enforcement do great work, and are always helpful at the NNO scene! It was a great way to conclude the evening, seeing so many friends from these townships. Thank you to all who helped with local events and graciously hosted – and for all the great food!!!
