Dear friends and neighbors on the Iron Range,
Last weekend we took the opportunity to reflect on the tragic events of June 14th that took the lives of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark. On Friday, Melissa, Mark, and their dog Gilbert were lying in state in the Capitol Rotunda. Roughly 7,500 members of the public came to the Rotunda to honor them.

On Saturday, I attended the private memorial service, which gracefully highlighted the lives of Melissa and Mark. I did not serve with Melissa for very long, but her dedication to her district and work was evident; the Hortmans will be missed by a great many friends and co-workers. |

Viewing the Recent Fire Damage
My brother-in-law John Keller took my daughter Leah and I up in a Cirrus SR20 plane last week. We’ve had this flight planned for a while so I could get a better look at the area impacted by the Munger-Shaw fires, especially with so many of our local firefighters involved.
The greenery is already coming back, so the burn areas aren't as obvious from the air, but it was still a worthwhile trip. We flew out of Eveleth Airport and covered the region between Eveleth, Cotton, Munger-Shaw, and the Whiteface Reservoir.

RAMS Barbeque Meeting
We had a great showing on Monday night at the RAMS Barbeque meeting. I was joined by Reps. Igo and Skraba, and also Sens. Farnsworth and Hauschild. We each gave end-of-session updates and took a great many questions from the local officials that attended. Thank you to all who came and for your dedication to the Range!
