Statement from Representative Erica Schwartz
ST. PAUL – State Representative Erica Schwartz, R-Nicollet, issued the following statement:
“Words cannot fully express the sorrow my family and I feel over the tragic loss of Speaker-Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark. This senseless act of violence has left all of us shocked and heartbroken.
The entire Minnesota Legislature mourns the loss of Speaker-Emerita Hortman, and our heartfelt prayers go out to the Hortman family, Senator John Hoffman, and everyone who is grieving during this difficult time.
Melissa was a dedicated leader who served Minnesota with heart and conviction. Her commitment to her community and colleagues was evident in every conversation and every decision she made.
We also continue to hold Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette close in our prayers as they recover from their injuries.
Acts of violence like this are absolutely unacceptable. When violence is directed at those who serve our communities, it shakes the very foundation of our democracy. We trust that law enforcement will bring swift and full justice.
May God bring comfort to all who are hurting and guide our state toward healing and unity in this challenging time.”
