Statement from Representative Jim Joy
Saint Paul, MN – Representative Jim Joy, R-Hawley, released the following statement:
"I am heartbroken by the tragic and senseless loss of Speaker-Emerita Melissa Hortman. Her leadership, strength, and steadfast dedication to serving Minnesotans earned the respect of colleagues across the Legislature.
Melissa’s presence at the Capitol left a meaningful and lasting imprint on our state. Her voice, her passion, and her commitment to public service will not be forgotten.
Over the years, we found moments of connection that reminded me of the humanity behind the politics. My prayers are with her family, friends, and colleagues as they grieve this tremendous loss.
I also continue to pray for Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette as they recover from this horrific act of violence. May God bring them healing and strength in the days ahead.
This evil must be condemned without hesitation. Political violence has no place in Minnesota or anywhere in America. May God comfort those in mourning and guide law enforcement as they work to bring justice."
