Legislative Update
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Wow! It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the final official day of the legislative session. While we’ll be starting a special session tomorrow to wrap up the remaining work, I want to take a moment to reflect, say thank you, and share a quick update.
First and foremost, I am incredibly honored and humbled to serve as your State Representative. I truly hope the votes I’ve taken so far make our district proud. Every time I’ve cast a vote, I’ve done my best to keep our shared values in mind and to protect what makes our community strong.
Over the past five months, I’ve received thousands of emails and hundreds of phone calls from folks back home. Whether we agreed or disagreed, I’ve listened. I’ve talked with local leaders, business owners, farmers, teachers, and parents to understand how each bill would impact our lives and livelihoods. I know I can’t make everyone happy, but I’ve always tried to be thoughtful, practical, and honest. That’s my promise to you.
I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to my family, especially my wife Michelle. This has been a whirlwind of a first session, and she’s been my biggest supporter from day one. From knocking on doors to representing me at local events, Michelle has been by my side every step of the way. I’m lucky beyond words to have her and the rest of my family cheering me on. Being away from home this long has deepened my appreciation for everything we have back in the district.
Education Bill Update
Late Friday night, the House passed three major education bills including the final education budget. I’m glad to report the bill includes more funding for local schools, while also preserving the free school breakfast and lunch program that many families rely on. Importantly, this bill also includes greater flexibility for how districts spend their funds and offers relief from some mandates; things our superintendents and school boards have been asking for.
Looking Ahead
While the regular session ends today, the work isn’t done. A few bills still need to be finalized in a short special session, and I’ll continue standing up for common-sense policies that work for our community and Minnesota as a whole. My focus remains on making life more affordable, supporting our schools and main street businesses, and making sure government is accountable to you.
Thank you again for trusting me with this responsibility. I will never take it for granted. If you have questions or ideas, please continue reaching out. I’m here to listen and serve.
