Legislative Update
Friends and neighbors,
We’re nearly halfway through the 2025 legislative session, and our work at the Capitol continues to focus on delivering real, meaningful results for Minnesotans. I wanted to share a few important updates with you—especially about efforts to protect our veterans, honor our law enforcement, and support the next generation of students.
Cracking Down on Scammers Targeting Veterans
This week, I was proud to support and vote for HF 1855, a bill designed to protect our veterans from deceptive practices by so-called “claim sharks.” These bad actors charge fees and make empty promises to veterans seeking the benefits they earned through service to our country.
HF 1855 strengthens protections by requiring anyone offering veterans benefit services for compensation to be federally accredited, and it prohibits them from guaranteeing specific outcomes. It also imposes civil penalties for violations and gives the Attorney General enforcement tools under Minnesota’s consumer fraud statutes. Most importantly, it ensures veterans are informed about the free services available through their local County Veterans Service Officers.
This bill is about respect, transparency, and justice—and I’m proud to stand with our veterans.
Honoring the Service of Minnesota Troopers
Another strong bipartisan win came Thursday when the House passed HF 1255, a bill to allow state troopers and other state employees to keep the original badges they received when they first took their oath of service.
The badges law enforcement officers are sworn in with have some deep sentimental value. With the state changing the official seal last biennium, some employees were being told they had to give up their badges—or buy them back. That didn’t sit right with me, and thankfully, legislators on both sides of the aisle agreed. The bill passed with overwhelming support and heads next to the Senate.
Our law enforcement officers risk their lives for our communities. The least we can do is let them keep a symbol of their service and sacrifice.
Connecting with Saint Mary’s Students
I had the pleasure of welcoming students from Saint Mary’s University to the Capitol this week. These students are our future leaders and had a strong sense of civic responsibility and a lot of great questions. We discussed the importance of higher education grants, financial aid, and making college more affordable and accessible for Minnesota families.
I always appreciate hearing directly from students. Their passion and perspective bring valuable insight into the decisions we’re making at the Capitol.
 MLB Opening Day
Baseball season is officially underway, and it’s always good to see the Twins back in action. Whether you're following every pitch or just catching a few games this year, Opening Day is a welcome reminder that spring is here and brighter days are ahead.
Thanks for reading—and as always, please reach out anytime with your thoughts, concerns, or ideas.
Have a great week,
Rep. Aaron Repinski
State Representative, District 26A
