Legislative Update
Friends & Neighbors,
Hope you had a great weekend! I enjoyed visits to Royalton, Milaca, and of course an afternoon on the lake with the last full weekend of fish houses on the ice. In St. Paul, House Republicans are working hard to advance key policies that will improve the lives of Minnesotans. This week, I want to provide updates on my bill to strengthen immigration enforcement, new legislation to protect women’s sports, and efforts to reduce burdensome mandates on schools.
There’s a lot of work to do, but I’m encouraged by the progress we’re making in the House. Thank you for your continued support, and as always, please reach out with any thoughts or concerns.
Update on House File 10
One of the most important responsibilities of government is ensuring that taxpayer resources are used responsibly and fairly. That’s why I introduced House File 10, a bill that prevents illegal immigrants from receiving taxpayer-funded financial aid for higher education.
HF 10 has now passed through two committees: Higher Education Committee and last week it passed the Health Finance and Policy Committee. Its next stop will be the State Government Finance and Policy Committee at 8:15 AM on Tuesday, March 4. I’ll keep you updated as it progresses, but I remain committed to ensuring that taxpayer dollars go to Minnesotans, not to those who are here illegally. You are invited to testify in support of the bill. Send me an email at rep.isaac.schultz@house.mn.gov if you would like to help get this bill passed.
Protecting Women’s Sports
House Republicans pushed forward legislation this last week to protect the integrity of women’s sports and ensure fairness for female athletes. The bill would prevent biological males from competing in women’s sports divisions, protecting the achievements, safety, and opportunities of female athletes across Minnesota.
This is about common sense and basic fairness. Women and girls deserve a level playing field, where their training, talent, and dedication are what determine success—not unfair advantages caused by biological differences.
For decades, female athletes have worked hard to break barriers and earn the opportunities they have today. But increasingly, we’re seeing girls lose championships, scholarships, and athletic records because biological males are being allowed to compete against them. This is not equality—it is an erosion of the protections that Title IX was designed to establish.
House Republicans are standing up for female athletes in Minnesota. This legislation makes it clear: women’s sports should be for biological women. I will continue to fight for policies that protect fairness, defend women’s rights, and ensure that girls across Minnesota have the same opportunities that past generations fought so hard to achieve.
Prioritizing Student Success & Cutting Burdensome Mandates
Minnesota students are falling behind, and our schools are struggling under the weight of unnecessary regulations and unfunded mandates. Right now, less than half of students are proficient in reading and math, yet instead of addressing these academic shortcomings, the state has prioritized bureaucracy and politically driven policies.
To refocus on student achievement and give schools more control, two key bills were heard in committee last week:
HF 6 removes outdated state mandates that make it harder for schools to allocate resources effectively. It also:
- Gives schools more control over how they meet student needs.
- Promotes career-focused education models like P-TECH, which connect students with workforce training and real-world experience.
- Redirects funding toward classrooms instead of government bureaucracy.
Last year, Democrats pushed an extreme ethnic studies mandate that prioritizes activism over essential subjects. HF 29 authored by Rep. Kresha seeks to restore balance by:
- Halting rushed curriculum changes and postponing new social studies standards until 2030.
- Repealing divisive curriculum requirements that push ideological narratives instead of teaching history objectively.
- Ensuring tax dollars go toward academic achievement in core subjects like math, reading, and science.
Instead of burdening schools with more costly mandates and political agendas, we should be helping students build strong foundations in academics and career readiness. House Republicans will continue fighting to give parents a stronger voice, increase local control, and refocus education on preparing students for success.
Upcoming Town Hall
I’m excited to announce that I will be hosting a Town Hall meeting this week to discuss legislative priorities, answer your questions, and hear your concerns directly. Your feedback is critical to my work at the Capitol, and I want to make sure your voice is heard.
We’ll be meeting on Friday, February 28, from 8:30-10:00 a.m. at Pierz City Hall. Hope to see you there!
