Minnesota House Republicans take a stand against rampant fraud, call for DOJ investigation
St. Paul, MN – On Monday, House Republican leaders sent a formal request to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, urging the Department of Justice (DOJ) to launch a comprehensive investigation into fraud and mismanagement that has cost taxpayers over $610 million.
“The extent of fraud occurring under Governor Tim Walz’s administration is staggering, and the lack of accountability from state agencies is unacceptable,” said House Speaker Lisa Demuth, R-Cold Spring. “We are calling on the DOJ to step in where state leadership has failed. Minnesotans deserve better than Democrat leadership has given them over these last six years.”
The request follows years of documented mismanagement and significant losses to fraudsters in human services programs and other state-run programs. Despite numerous reports from the Office of the Legislative Auditor detailing oversight failures, legislative Democrats have refused to hold a single hearing on the issue in six years.
“House Republicans remain committed to ensuring taxpayer dollars are used responsibly and reach those who truly need them,” said House Majority Leader Harry Niska, R-Ramsey. “We will not sit by while fraud runs rampant in our state programs. We will work tirelessly to shine a light on these abuses, implement stronger safeguards, and hold those responsible accountable.”
In addition to requesting a DOJ investigation, House Republicans are urging the Trump Administration to quickly nominate and confirm a new permanent U.S. Attorney for Minnesota to ensure a thorough federal response to the rampant fraud in Minnesota.
