Legislative Update
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
After nearly four weeks of delays, the Minnesota House is officially back in session, and I’m excited to continue working to address the priorities that matter most to our neighbors. With committees restarting, I’m focused on advancing policies that support public safety, affordability and infrastructure.
Safer Communities: Protecting and Recruiting Officers
One of the priorities of this session is improving officer and community safety. I’ve introduced a bill to protect our dedicated law enforcement by increasing penalties for assaults on law enforcement officers, ensuring that those who put their lives on the line to protect us are given the respect and protection they deserve. Officers across our state have faced criticism and this bill is an important step in the right direction. I am also continuing efforts to address officers' pensions to ensure we can recruit and retain good police officers in our communities.

Senior Affordability: Cap on Property Taxes and Repeal of the Social Security Tax
Additionally, I’m pushing for a hearing on my bill to cap property tax increases for seniors and continue my bipartisan effort to repeal the tax on social security. Many seniors on fixed incomes are struggling to keep up with rising property taxes, forcing some to make difficult choices between staying in their homes, relocating or moving out of state. No one should be taxed out of their community after a lifetime of work and investment. This legislation would provide much-needed relief, helping seniors remain in their homes while ensuring local governments can still meet essential needs.

Stronger Infrastructure
Infrastructure remains a major focus for our district, and I’m working to secure vital infrastructure funding for Excelsior, Minnetrista, Mound, Minnetonka Beach. From road improvements to clean water and sewer upgrades, these investments will strengthen our communities, ensure we’re planning for future growth and provide good paying jobs.
Join Me for Local Conversations & Community Priorities
Along with our regular townhalls, I am now kicking off my new in-district office hours this Friday from 9:00 – 11:00 AM at Caribou Coffee. This is a great opportunity to connect, ask questions, and share your thoughts on what’s happening at the Capitol. Pre-register your timeslot by emailing me at rep.andrew.myers@house.mn.gov.
